Since we can't physically buy a Montage that shouldn't stop the updates at least for another year or two but someone probably knows better the history concerning updates after a "discontinued" model. Are they still claiming it's current? They screwed around and the Osmose is available and it's killer game changing (have it sitting in front of me now) so whatever they have better be something more than more of the same. MPE or MIDI Polyphonic Expression puts everything else to a life of complete and total boredom and irrelevance. I criticized it greatly until I touched it. Would I get an Osmose in favor of the Montage+? Unless Yamaha has some serious rabbits in hats in closets I'm already keeping this one. Let's just say It's all about pure ultimate musical joy and fun and excitement and maybe Yamaha accelerated CK at the low price point to sell some before Osmose (I think they have ideas about what's coming whereas some think they don't) but they didn't make it with the new synth in time. Unless it can play like an Osmose, Houston might have a problem. I'm not necessarily a typically user I might buy everything available or at least to check it out but if complexity (another Yamaha synth) is going up against a plug and play Osmose that makes you sound like anything you can dream of, I wonder what might happen? Got to love competition. Anyone think Yamaha is releasing its own MPE machine? I've changed gears from complicated synths to stage boards and I also have the HydraSynth Deluxe but it wasn't able to take me away from a quality stage board. The Osmose is dominating at the moment because if fun and pleasure and musicality is what you want this is totally it. The only downside is if they don't keep providing and improving programming for it. It might not be easy to program yourself but it has macro options so you can tweek pretty dramatically. I think it's way under priced so you might better at least try one if you are able.

Not that this is applicable to this generation, but the previous gen Motif XF had its final firmware released Jan 2014 and two years later (and a few months) the Montage was released.

The latest Montage firmware was released late Feb 2021 so we are in a similar time window right now (over 2 years).

Things may be different this gen - or not.

Statements like "Montage is not discontinued" may mean there's going to be another Montage (and not a new name) just like Motif had 3 generations (classic, XS, XF) while still the Montage 1st gen is discontinued. So, if this were the case, then the statement would be accurate although folks meant they wondered if the 1st gen is discontinued.

I don't really know and do cross my fingers for more juice to squeeze out of my Montage through a firmware update that enhances or adds features.

However, this could go any kind of way. I expect we'll know relatively soon.

In the meantime, Montage remains my gigging workhorse. Firmware update or not - it's still better (in most respects) than Yamaha's previous flagship synth.
