I'm interested in learning more about this A/D Input feature but there is very limited information on the matter. I've checked the RM and OM and both don't really mention much.

Will this feature allow me to say Mic up our drummers kick, snare, and hh and feed that combined signal into the montage A/D input and then it can automatically sync to the drummer? Any place I can find more info on this feature?

That is the theory... We expect your mileage will vary greatly with a live drummer.

But until you get to the point where you can try it with a live drummer you can try it out with any audio source. The stronger the sense of timing in the audio source the better the Audio Beat Sync will work. You can see A/D INPUT as one of the options for MIDI SYNC: Internal, MIDI, A/D Input

In terms of getting tempo... I find that if you wish to synchronize your band to a tempo source - it might be best to find a device that can be fed to both the drummer and to the Montage, rather than basing everything on the technology being able to interpret a beat... drummer drops a stick and your tempo might take a major league pause (that's why I say your mileage will vary). But a key is that an external source can be used to interact with the Motion Control engine.

An example is the PERFORMANCE "Chilled Vocoder" - here a Drum Arpeggio is used to feed the Vocoder. Typically a microphone input is used to encode the vocal on the synth... in Montage anything can be used to modulate almost anything else. I find the A/D as a modulation source more exciting than the prospect of following a live drummer.

Thanks BM,
I figured this out last night and played around with it a bit using some pre-recorded audio. Pretty sure this won't work to sync the midi clock with the drummer since the tempo seems to jump quite a bit. Not a big deal, I agree that using the A/D as a modulation source is more exciting. I think I will stick with feeding our drummer a click track coming from my rig.
