Hi everyone and thanks for reading. I'll start by saying I'm new here and look forward to where things are going especially with what Yamaha has done with the montage. Some background on myself. I've spent the better part of my life absorbing and playing music. My staples have always been piano and a pair of turntables buy I have dabbled Into the sax, flute, clarinet, and guitar. A few years back my life was change permanently by a drunk driver and I lost my entire collection of musical instruments, tables, and my record collection to a drunk driver. I have spent my time since then dedicated to rebuilding the dreams I once had at my fingertips. I have since completely abandoned DJing and have spent my time building up my production side of things with a thought that I would at some point persue delving into a live edm act. A few weeks ago I finally decided it was time to pony up and got get myself my motif. Upon walking to GC I was soon mesmerized by my first acquaintance with the montage that till that moment I knew nothing about. It was a easy choice as I have always been told taught to do things right the first time so I ponied up and forked out the cash as I was not about to drive home that day without what I really needed. That said I have fallen in love with this beautifully designed beast of sound and have never once looked back and thought to myself why did I do this.. the montage has filled a void I had hanging in my heart since the faithful day in which that drunk driver changed the course of my life for good. I do not feel sorry for myself for what happened I have just chosen to make the best I can of it.. in fact I do not believe if that event had not happened that I would be sitting here today with my montage pondering the many ways I know this Goliath of a synth will bring joy to so many people's ears. I am thankful and happy to start my new journey. The above already stated I have since decided I will be building a complete live act around my montage with it being the mainstay of my rig. I promise I will be in to ask all sorts of stupid questions, asking for advice, looking for ideas. Ect. I like outside opinions and I'm not afraid to ask for them. No feedback is bad feedback and I look forward to getting to know many of you through it and will help you as you do me. I will be working in ableton live as I am most comfortable with it. That said everything else aside, Money aside, And knowing what I have posted above I'm looking for some ideas and outside help on where I take this on the gear side of things.. clearly the montage will be the centrepiece. Knowing I'll be doing edm, (d&b, dubstep, house, techno, and breaks). I like them all what would you envision being added to my setup. I know this is obviously my setup and not yours but I'm wondering who has those golden ideas I have not thought of yet? vst's controllers, foot pedals, drum machines, maybe the machine studio? I know this is not exactly related to my montage, but in essence at the end of the day it is. What do you think? Thanks in advance, Nick of Time
Hi and welcome to the forums. First thing I will say: Please use the RETURN key to break you posts up into paragraphs. It's very difficult to read a big block of text! 🙂
As for your plan to use the Montage as the center of EDM live rig. It's a great idea - I think the Montage is an ideal EDM instrument, either as a standalone or with outboard gear.
Now the exact set-up is really an individual thing. Right now my setup is the Montage, Novation Circuit, Roland TR-8, Roland TB-3 and Korg kaossilator Pro Plus. This provides a lot of hands-on tweaking which I really enjoy. The Electribe 2 Sampler looks like a good piece of kit to add as well. All of these drum machine / groove boxes are perfect for EDM - so I would look at something like that so you can make and generate beats on the fly.
Now, some people may like playing along to pre-recorded tracks which you can easily do with the A/D input and the Auto Beat Detect feature. That way all your backing tracks are done and you can focus 100% on playing the Montage.
So there's a few ideas for you to look ar! Make sure you read reviews and watch YouTube demos so you know exactly what the gear can do and what is sounds like. And most importantly: HAVE FUN!
I'll try and be better about breaking my long rambling posts into some more concise parts. Thanks for the advice, I know better.
That said Scott do you find yourself relying on any one piece of your setup more then the other? If so what about it do you feel necessitates that?
Thanks for the welcomes as well..
Bernd is that really your picture? Maybe we are related.

I probably use the Novation Circuit most and here's why: It is an excellent instrument for trying out new ideas and laying out the framework of a song. It's very portable (can run on batteries) so it's always at arm's reach. So when I'm watching TV or killing time somewhere I just make mini tracks. It has 4 drum parts and 2 synth parts and now it can sample so you can really get creative. Then I take those tracks and add the parts when I connect it back up to the main set-up.
And yes don't worry about Sven (Berned) - he doesn't even have a Montage so he has no idea what it can or can't do. He's still stuck in the 90's and has no idea how modern music is made.

It's pretty obvious both are Sven (Burned). No one else is disrupting the forum and you've already proven your propensity for multiple ID's by pretending you aren't Sven. It's clear you don't give a hoot about the Montage (you admit you don't even own one) or this community and are just out to cause trouble. So time to go to the naughty step and let the grown-ups talk business here.
