Hello together,

is there a timeline when the drivers for the new Apple Macs with the new M1 chip (Silicon) and Big Sur will be released? Is the current driver working using Rosetta 2.0 on M1?

Not sure if this helps or not but I own a Mac Mini M1 and I am NOT able to use the USB driver to receive MIDI signals from my S90. 🙁

This isn't like a OS update this is a new CPU architecture so a whole new driver has to be written so it could take awhile. This is just life when you use bleeding edge technology.

I'm wondering why manufacturers didn't work on providing drivers / versions for the Apple M1 Chip before Apple released the M1 Chip. Apple provided a developer version of the Mac Mini M1 some time before they released.

I hope that drivers for M1 Chip will be released soon.

Arrogance. Apple seems to expect everyone will kowtow the minute they show some flashy videos and flash some ridonculous specs, abandoning all concerns for backwards compatible gear that they (users) depend on, and some do. If there's another amazing company with the breadth in creativity and market span of Apple, it could be Yamaha. So our beloved Yamaha (not being sarcastic, I'm Montage, DX7, Motif, S70xs, D1500'd up the Yamazoo!) can be a bit set in its own ways as well. No answers here, just understanding. And whoever said it will take a little time, I agree!

yeah, you're right. When Apple says we change it, then everyone must follow. If they don't, bad luck.

I'm also using Yamaha Synths since 1990 and I love them. So, I didn't want to criticise them, but am wondering about current situation which is happening by nearly every manufacturer. It's not a problem as I have an older MacBook Pro, so I will wait.

Hello Everyone,

All the software for the new M1 Silicon Macs is currently being tested and as of this moment it is NOT compatible. The Steinberg side has the best information on this and we all use that driver. That is the best information I have. The mid March is an estimate, not a guarantee by the way. They are usually pretty good about releasing updates so it most likely will be a solid estimate. If I get any additional information I share it here.

Good news!
Yamaha Steinberg Drivers for Big Sur / M1 Silicon Macs (with Rosetta 2) have been released.
https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/downloads_hardware/yamaha_steinberg_usb_driver.html

With this driver (v3.0.5) also Montage Connect v1.1.0 is working on my MacBook Pro M1.

Release notes:

Important information on the installation

Driver V3.0.5 is specifically for macOS 11 (Big Sur). For previous versions such as macOS 10.13, 10.14 and 10.15, V2.0.5 is still the current driver release.
Since Apple has adopted new security features on Apple silicon-based Macs, the security policy of the Mac needs to be changed before installing the driver. Please refer to this document for the detailed description of how the (first) installation has to be made.
All UR-C, UR-RT and UR models which require TOOLS are also Big Sur (Intel/Apple silicon) compatible by installing the current TOOLS release after installing the Yamaha Steinberg USB driver V3.0.5.

... all of this will be seen once following the link provided by Mathias (thanks for the announce).

Hello Everyone,

Steinberg usually updates right before we do but within the next 24 hours you should find this new driver on the MONTAGE download site along with all the other product sites that use this driver. The one on the Steinberg should work with synthesizers as well.

The Montage and MODX download pages still only have version 2.0.5, which is not compatible with Big Sur. But the one on Steinberg's site should be fine to use? If so, why aren't Yamaha's download pages updated?

For me, version 3.0.5 released on Steinberg's site works fine. Didn't have yet any issue using the Montage 7.
Regarding update on the Yamaha download page: I found the same behaviour when Steinberg released the version 2.0.5. Took some weeks until they updated the Yamaha download page with it.
Maybe they are still testing before they will release the new version on the Yamaha page.
