Hi guys,

I wanted to add some samples to the Montage, so I saved a User File on Montage, imported it in Waveform editor, added the samples, overwritten the User File with the new one, loaded the new User File in Montage and got 2 times the message "Illegal File". The third time it got loaded, but when I played some sounds that use Library samples, they did not sound, and the element wasn't even loaded. The element was off and set to CF3 Stretch...
Montage and Waveform Editor are both on the latest update.
Did I do something wrong, except for overwriting the User File?(@#$%^&*(@#*$&%^GRRRR!!!!!!
Any help?
Thanks!

Are you just making up this routine as you go or are you following some specific guide or instructions? Just curious.

Can you give us an idea of some of the details when you say “I saved a User File on Montage, imported it in Waveform editor, added the samples”... just how did you add samples?

Also what is with the “Illegal File” messages? And why did it work the third time? Did you do something different, if so what?
You don’t mention file extensions - or why a file you created in the MONTAGE will not load back to the MONTAGE. In order to tell you where it got messed up, you’ll need to fill in much of the details.

You can check your work... if an Element is stored in the OFF position, it will load in the OFF position. The CFX Waveform is Number 0001 which is why it is showing up... because there is no Waveform assigned.

If your question is does creating data in the MELAS WAVEFORM EDITOR work, yes it does.
If your question is, how... well you’ll have to give us some real details. Are you creating musical instruments, drum Kits, audio loops? You don’t say.

I made this up, since I can't find the correct routine to add a multi-sample to the Montage that's been edited by JM Waveform Editor. Can someone show me the correct way? Not to export it as a library file (.X7L) please. I want the waveforms to be loaded in the User bank. And if I do load it to Montage as a library I can't use "Utility/Contents/Library import" because there isn't a performance that uses the new waveforms.

Can you give us an idea of some of the details when you say “I saved a User File on Montage, imported it in Waveform editor, added the samples”... just how did you add samples?

I drag and dropped the samples into the "waveforms" tap to an empty slot. Can you do any of the operations I mention above in a wrong way?

Also what is with the “Illegal File” messages? And why did it work the third time? Did you do something different, if so what?

3 times exactly the same operation, the exact same file. 3th time it loaded. Why it worked the third time? You tell me

You of all people should know that with User File, I mean .X7U file. Saved it on the Montage like this, and saved it in the waveform editor like this.

The strange thing is, when the User File (.X7U) is opened in the Waveform Editor, it shows next to all the performances that use libraries the exact locations of the library waveforms and they are correct.

You can check your work... if an Element is stored in the OFF position, it will load in the OFF position. The CFX Waveform is Number 0001 which is why it is showing up... because there is no Waveform assigned.

I did off course checked that. But even if it would be stored in the OFF position, the correct waveform should still be selected

Are you creating musical instruments, drum Kits, audio loops? You don’t say.

It doesn't matter what I create. It's not even about what I create. If an element in a completely different performance that has nothing to do with this uses library waveforms and all of a sudden is set to CF3 Stretch Sw St after being loaded into Waveform Editor, saved as .X7U file, and loaded into montage again, than the added samples seem irrelevant. The messed up performance hasn't been touched by me. So that's why I think the Waveform Editor messed up my User File.

Thanks for any help.

Regards

We know what you think, but it DOES matter what you create in order to provide you with an answer. As you correctly state... “... because there isn't a performance that uses the new waveforms.”

Why don’t you create a Performance that uses your Waveform?
[UTILITY] > “Contents” > “Data Utility” > Waveform...
if you loaded your data, but have no Performance, then build a Performance using the Waveforms in your Waveform Folder.

I had a similar experience with Melas Waveform Editor recently, when I had to resample 120 keybanks from 96KHz to 48KHz. I exported the keybanks with Waveform Editor, used a batch editing on Soundforge to resample the wave files, deleted the old keybanks, imported the new ones, spent a few hours reconfiguring velocity and key ranges, and finally exported a Montage library file . I have checked every sample in Waveform Editor and they were all playing correctly.

Upon loading in my MODX - illegal file error at about 80% of loading.

First I thought it may be a USB problem and did not have the time to check another stick, but now that I see another user having the same problem, I start to think there may be a problem with the Waveform Editor export. We should definitely contact Mr. Melas about this issue.

I get the feeling you don't understand what I'm trying to do. It's very simple actually. I quote myself

Ok then. Here's what I want to create. A single part performance with only one element that contains a multi-sample of 2 wav's mapped across the keyboard and looped in JM Waveform Editor.

illegal file error at about 80% of loading

I had that exact same message at about 80%. I used the same USB where I store my .X7U .X7A .X7L files to and where I do the Montage OS updates with.

Again, thanks for the help

Ok. So again, please look in the Waveform Folder (steps to get there in my last post), are your imported Waveforms listed?
If yes, let us know.

Recall the “Init Normal (AWM2)”
Press [EDIT]
Select “Part 1”
Touch “Elem1”
Touch “Osc/Tune”
Touch the box at the top that has the default Waveform, to view the pop-in menu
Set the Waveform search (amber) to “Bank” = User
Find your Waveform

yes, they are. How will that help restoring the other performances?
