Has anyone successfully used a Microsoft Surface as a extended Touchscreen (simulating the touchscreen on the Montage)? I have searched the web but cannot find anything definitive.

Thanks in advance for any advice or feedback you may provide,
Rich D

Currently only touchscreens which conform to Montage's expected USB touchscreen standard work as external touchscreens. There are several threads:

They all basically communicate the same formula for success regarding this unsupported, unofficial feature.

From what I "think" I know - there's no practical way to support what you're asking for without a lot of evasive changes It would be different if Montage had a wifi network path - and Montage as an "AP" with an SSID of Montage-[SerialNo] (or Montage-[DeviceNo]) so you could have several and each would not conflict. Montage doesn't have wifi. Wifi is making its way into keyboards (despite the fact that wifi is highly disruptive to a clean audio path without investing a lot of effort/possibly-cost into the layout and chassis. Perhaps the competitive landscape will force adding wifi in future products.

I would personally love to have a way to "connect" (wired or wireless) a tablet to Montage and use the tablet's touchscreen to control Montage's GUI to emulate the on-keyboard touchscreen. I also understand that there's not really a great way to accomplish this with the current set of design decisions.

Instead of using a general-purpose device (like surface) to emulate the montage touchscreen - it would be preferable today to use a dedicated external touchscreen -- currently identified as the Dell monitor in those linked forum posts above. Your surface will now be free to work as a DAW or serve any MIDI/audio connected purpose.

Jason,
Appreciate all the information. I did view the link and agree that in lieu of the Surface being impractical at this point, something like Dell S2240T touchscreen is the best way to go.

Best wishes,
Rich
