My DAW is Live 9 and the whole setup I have (Push 2, UAD Apollo). Simple question- the moment I switch Montage to "Midi Rec on Daw" all local knobs and related controllers Cutover, ADSR can not be used (and I'm not talking about super knob). I've tried both Single and Multi mods . If I turn local on - I can use all knobs but Midi is still not received (as it should be not , I get it). Also I had few instances that one of the controllers can be changes but after few seconds it gets the life on its own (I checked controllers in Daw so its not DAW that sends midi). I've tried both setups - Input in to the audio card and just straight USB Midi into the DAW channel. Anything I'm doing wrong?

Thank you!

Sorry, I'm not an Ableton user, but you must select a MIDI Track and route the MIDI data back to the Montage, via the software. Basic MIDI 101.

Also you make no mention of having downloaded, installed, or selected the Yamaha Steinberg USB driver. Post a screenshot of your Ableton Live MIDI setup page... All DAW work fundamentally in a similar fashion.

When select "MIDI REC on DAW" you can see the LOCAL CONTROL is turned OFF (means the connection that sends your note data, your controllers, etc, does not trigger the Montage directly, instead they are routed OUT via MIDI, first

From here the Montage is off the hook, it's your responsibility to receive that data on a MIDI Track in your DAW of choice and echo it back to the Montage MIDI IN on Port 1.

We assume because you don't say, you are connected via USB to the computer.
And we assume you have selected Montage MIDI "Port 1" to send the data back to the Montage.

Really this is pretty basic stuff.

1) Do you have the driver?
2) is it selected inside your MIDI OPTIONS or MIDI SETUP screen in Live?
3) Can you post a screenshot.

Let us know.
