I read the article on setting up montage and Cubase for midi and audio recording and although I can see how the quick set up works in the utility page what I found was that midi and audio recorded fine with me not changing the set up from stand alone - should this work? I started with the Init GM performance.

Well, if by "works" you mean data is sent, that may well happen because in 'standalone' the Montage naturally outputs both MIDI and Audio, however, it is not optimized for preventing MIDI loops, nor is it optimized audio monitoring. And if arpeggio data is involved, obviously a different set is required to capture the arpeggiator output instead of the direct key presses. So it's not a matter of whether or not you can record MIDI and audio, it's a matter of what MIDI source, and a matter of do you need to monitor yourself "direct" or post the DAW.
Hi Bad Mister,
The first part of the Montage with Cubase Tutorial was very helpful. I'm waiting for Second Part to be posted. Which focuses on showing the various scenarios, and workflows involved when using the Montage with Cubase.
Thanks,
