We are going to assume that you have .X7L File... and your goal is to choose to keep just the DX7 (FM-X) data from that file.

You can load any Library File, then select to Import specific data from that Library to your current User Bank... where it can join other data already there, or if your goal is to create a new Bank containing only the imported data then you would initialize the User Bank before using the “Library Import” feature.

_ Load the “MONTAGE Expanded.X7L Library File, temporarily, to one of the 8 Library locations.
_ Either Load the User Bank with the data you wish to share the space with the DX7 selections you are going to make... or, initialize the User Bank clearing it for the DX7 Performances you are going to Import from the installed MONTAGE_Expanded Library.

(When creating a custom Bank, you must assemble all of the data to the current User Bank).

Go to the Performance HOME screen
Press [CATEGORY SEARCH]
Set the “Bank/Favorite” = “MONTAGE_Expanded” (your installed Library)
This will populate the field with just data from the Library in question.
Review the Performances, play through them decide which Performances you wish to keep.
Take note of whether the Performances you are interested in are using custom Arps, custom Motion Seq, (or custom Waveforms if AWM2 is involved)... using the “Library Import” feature will bring along the User Arps and Motion Seqs along with the Performance data, if they are applied to the Parts of the Performance you select. By going through in one Import operation and *selecting* all the candidates in a single pass you will avoid importing any Arp Phrase or Motion Sequence more than once.

If your DX7 (FM-X) Performances use no custom Arps, no custom Motion Seqs, (we know they use no custom AWM2 Waveforms) you have other options to gather the data you want). Capture each program you play in either MONTAGE CONNECT or with the iOS App (Soundmondo)... these utilities are great for Performances that do not additionally use custom Arps, MS, or Waveforms... and makes it quick and easy to add to any existing User Bank. These Utilities use bulk dump protocol.

If it seems like a lot of work to play through, select and import Performances from a Library, you may not be quite ready to do this separation. When gathering sounds into custom Banks, you should have some commitment to that program. The thing to know about the [UTILITY] > “Contents” > “Library Import” Function... it will maintain links to the custom Arps, custom Motion Seqs, and custom Waveform data, when used properly.
And if you are able to go through the individual listing and mark the ones you wish to import, so that it all can happen in one operation, you can avoid duplicating User Arps, MSeqs and AWM2 Waveforms, if any.

You can understand why User Arps, User Motion Seqs, and User Waveforms must be handled specially by the Library Import option... it is so they can sound properly. The Arps, MSeqs, and Waveforms are stored in a Data Utility Folder - not within the Performance itself. Once all data is assembled and referencing the custom data (found in the appropriate Data Utility Folder) you can save that data as... a new self-sufficient Library... by self-sufficient we mean all the Custom data is written to the ROM Library memory and each installed Performance will be able to play as originally programmed.
