Purchased the Ksounds Epic Grand sound library for Montage from Yamaha Music Soft. I formatted the flash drive. I extracted the files from the zip folder before copying them to the flash drive. The screen on the Montage lists the two files - Large bank Epic Grand and Small bank Epic Grand. When I select either file , I get a screen message that says Illegal File with a box that says close/exit. If anyone has experienced this and knows what I need to do to successfully load the program I welcome your input. The Yamaha tech support suggested that I try downloading the program again. I did that with the same result. Thank you for your help or empathy, Daniel
Joel - I see you have Epic Grand for Montage (your information has some screen shots). Can you, or anyone else who has Epic Grand, verify it still loads fine using the original supplied X7L files on the latest v2.5 firmware?
I'm assuming Daniel is using the latest - although it's also worth asking what version of firmware is actually running here.
Also - you can try to run the library files through this website:
https://jyamaha.alwaysdata.net/
Which will "sort of" check the integrity of the files. Before doing that, though, what's the size of each of the X7L files on the USB stick? File sizes that are not in the 100s of MB would be a red flag and perhaps point to a virus or possibly virus protection software flagging the files and trying to protect you.
If the files look OK - the website above will tell you what Performances it sees inside and also what Waveforms it sees. If nothing is returned - then it would indicate there may be an issue with the files you have. Others have not had an issue loading - so I do not think there is any problem, in general, with Montage or the sample library.

This might be a long shot, but i remember several comments about the illegal file error and lack of available sample memory.
Might have a look at what you have available, the epic grand has specific requirements in that area.
My understanding is that "Sample Memory Full" should show if there's a memory issue and "Illegal File" should show if the file is not compatible with Montage. I know we have seen other reports in the message board - but those are the stated "official" descriptions of those error messages.

My firmware version is 1.20.4 . Is this my problem? Do I need to update the firmware? Where do I locate the latest firmware version to download. Again Thanks, Daniel
Please go to the Main corporate Yamaha website, (Yamaha.com) select your country, proceed as if you wanted to find information on the MONTAGE. On the MONTAGE product page you will find a link that only lists all things MONTAGE.
Your MONTAGE is so old (where have you been) there have been multiple firmware updates (current is version 2.50.x)
Please SAVE all your data to a USB stick before updating your instrument.
The download comes with instructions... read them twice.
Once to get an idea of what to expect
The second time as you execute the update.
The download includes a Supplementary Manual with all the updated features and additions to your Reference Manual.
This is absolutely your problem.
Read the page you purchased this product from: https://www.yamahamusicsoft.com/synth/epic-grand-montage
