I'm shopping for a workstation and comparing the Modx and Montage. I know about all the electronic similarities and such but my concern is the keybed. I live in a small town and only workstation of any kind at the local GC is a Modx8. I like the sounds and being older I like the weight, but don't like the keybed, those narrow keys get to me. Are the keys on the Montage bigger on both the 8 and the 7. I was told Yamaha uses those narrow keys on all their non-hammer keybeds, would a Montage 7 have those narrow keys. The weight of the Montage 8 is an issue looking at the Montage.

Hi Steve,
I own a Yamaha P200 weighted Action keybed as well as a Montage6 and Tyros4.
In width of any P200 white key is approx. 24 mm, while the same key on the Montage6 or Tyros 4 are 22 mm, give or take one mm.
From what I can tell the non-weighted keys are approximately 2mm narrower than those used on a weighted keybed such as the P200.
I believe the P200 uses the same keybed as the MODx8.
For what its worth. 2mm difference from the keybeds I own.
