For those who have a Montage M: does loading a Pattern still change the actual Performance you are in?

For those who have a Montage M: does loading a Pattern still change the actual Performance you are in?

When you use the 'Store Pattern & Perf Settings' button to save the pattern it sets a link between the pattern and the current performance.

Store Pattern & Perf Settings (Store Pattern and Performance Settings)
Saves the link between the edited Patterns and the Performance used.

Then when you click on a pattern name and use the 'Load' option the loading of a that pattern will bring in the linked performance. That is because the default 'Content Type' will be 'Pattern&Perf'.

If you select 'Content Type' you have a choice of what to load: Pattern&Perf, Pattern, or .mid File. Use 'Pattern' if you want to load the pattern but NOT the performance. Use '.mid File' if you saved your pattern as a midi file from the 'Edit / Job' screen.

Once the pattern is loaded you can manually select a different performance and then use the 'Store Pattern . . .' button to associate your new performance with that pattern.

See pag 148 of the Ops doc.

Pattern Name
Shows the name of the selected Pattern.
By tapping on the name, you will see the context menu for Load, Rename, and New Pattern.
You can select a Pattern by using the [INC/YES] and [DEC/NO] buttons when the cursor is on
the Pattern Name.

If you use the wheel to change patterns you can see the screen change both the pattern name and the performance name if the pattern is linked to a performance.

Thanks.
So in short, same as on the previous gen.
Too bad, this was (is) the single most confusing UX procedure in the OS.

Yes - I believe it is the same.

Not sure I understand that comment.

As I explained above it will load what you tell it to.

if you load a pattern using the default Content Type of 'Pattern&Perf' it will load both the pattern AND the performance.

And if you select either the 'Pattern' or the '.mid File' Content type if will ONLY load the pattern.

As far as I remember that is the same on the previous gen but I only had the Modx, not the Montage.

Yes, but it's very confusing.
It's very easy to replace your existing Performance, and this should not be the default.

Ideally, all the Patterns associated with the current Performance should be available in a drop down list, so you can easily load "compatible" Pattern in your Perf.
Or there should be a filter (ON by default) that only shows Patterns linked with the current Perf in the Load browser.

The default right now is for a destructive action (replace your current Performance).

Any time a new performance is loaded AND the current performance has changes there should be a prompt asking if you want to save the current performance.

A similar situation is if you press category search and just scroll around looking it will switch performances even if you have edited the current performance.

The default right now is for a destructive action (replace your current Performance).

At least with patterns it won't do the load until you tell it to. But yes, if you just blindly push the button and forget about the Content Type it can bit you.
