  • the new firmware 3.0 has 52 new performances. 16 of them can easly be found with the setlist best of Firmware 3.0. But what´s about the rest. Is there an easy way to find all of the 52 new performances ?

  • Yes, there is... Welcome to Yamaha Synth and thanks for the question.

The new Performances were added to the end of the list...for MONTAGE that would be right after “Business Lunch” (MSB/LSB 64/20, PC 095) and before the “Init” Templates in the Preset Bank. Here’s how to locate them quickly:

The first of the 52 newly added Performances is called “NY Jam Sesh”
    From the [PERFORMANCE (HOME)] screen
    Press [CATEGORY SEARCH]
    Set the “Bank/Favorite” = Preset
    Set the “Attribute” = All
Tap the box with the magnifying glass and type in: ny jam
    Tap “Done”
This should reveal “NY Jam Sesh”
    Tap “NY Jam Sesh”
Press HOME to return to the main screen

If you advance through the Presets starting with “NY Jam Sesh” you will reach all 52 in order.

    Alternate view:
If you would like to see them listed in order, with “NY Jam Sesh” recalled, return to [CATEGORY SEARCH]
    Set the Main = ALL
    “Sort” should be “Default” (green)
Now you can advance through them on the “Performance Category Search” screen... use the “Audition” box or the [AUDITION] button to hear the stored audition phrase. (Or play them yourself).

The second new Performance is “Scoring Meloncholy” followed by “Saturnalia”
The last new one is called “Wired”

    Thanks Bad Mister.
It just seems easy with the appropriate expertise.
But not so for the normal user.
Couldn´t Yamaha expand the structure with a field called e.g. "origin"
Your are looking for all performances of the library Blue Man Group.
origin = "Blue Man Group" and you`ll get all

On the Genos you go to expansion, all additional libraries are shown. You can select the one you like and get all the "styles"
    Way better.

We do provide an Owner’s Manual that goes over how to find sounds... say you are looking for all Performances in the “Blue Man Group” Library

    From the [HOME] screen:
    Press [CATEGORY SEARCH]
Set the “Bank/Favorite” = "Blue Man Group"
The search field populates with just Performances from the Blue Man Group Library

You can now advance through them on this screen, with the [INC/YES] button, the Cursor Arrows, or with the Data Dial.
You can further refine the search using the Main and Sub Categories, if you wish.

On the Genos you go to expansion, all additional libraries are shown. You can select the one you like and get all the "styles"
    Way better.

On the MONTAGE you set the Bank/Favorite to what you want to view... Just tap the "Bank/Favorite" box: it will list: All, Favorite, Preset, Motif XF, User, followed by your currently installed Libraries. Select the one you like and you get all the Performances... this works for MONTAGE!

Libraries show up as a bank. Each library is named under the bank list according to the library filename.

Name the library "Blue Man Group.X7L" before loading (installing) the library and you will see "Blue Man Group" as a bank which can be selected.

That's different than finding new content.

Overall, the file system and how it relates to trends in modern consumer products with file systems, or not, is an area of growth for the Yamaha synth. For whatever reason it seems the file system is looked at as something that should be unique and proprietary so a musician has to learn this by route instead of trying to get out of the way.

That works fine as far as you do not need more then eight libraries. If you try to load the ninth library you will get “Library full” and the memory of the MONTAGE looks like a Swiss cheese ? ( lots of holes )
Okay with the John Melas tools you’re able to to organise this Swiss cheese and fill the holes. That’s the good news. The bad news is that you will lose the library information.
That brings me back to my suggestion to add a field .....origin.
