Sup Guys, I’m wondering if Yamaha is capable of enhancing the Montage’s Pianos with Clavinova’s technology. The technology consists of a Real Grand Expression 2(Playability,Sensitivity, and Sound Quality), A (VRM) Virtual Resonance Modelling(String Resonance,Damper Resonance,Keyoff Resonance and more),GP Response Damper Pedal(Yamaha’s Soft Pedals Effects/Una-Corda),Grand Expression Modelling(Reproduces a diverse array of tonal geriatrics enriching the playing experience), NEW improved CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial Samples, New Binaural Samples for CFX and Bösendorfer and that’s about it. I wonder if they could also add a variation of pianos outside their brand like other high end brands like Korg,Roland and Nord does for their pianos such as Austrian Grand, Italian Grands and German Grands with the same tech as the Clavinova implemented in the Montage as well. What you guys think? Does the Montage have the capacity? Or is it a hardware think that’s impossible. Let me know so we can see how we can take the Montage further than it already is. Thanks much Love Yamaha Family.

The feedback on Ideascale was that this was considered - but the tradeoff was between SSS or VRM and SSS won as there was deemed more value in a live performance feature like SSS than in a studio/home use feature like VRM (subtlety that would get lost in the mix during a gig - or that was the thought).

That is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard from Yamaha executives on Ideascale. How many other manufacturers have some type of SSS and VRM at the same time? Can they just turn off the VRM effect and then you can sound switch? I don’t understand why VRM has to be a home thing when I can also use it in live situations when I’m playing a Jazz, Soul, Groove type of thing so they can hear the imperfections of a piano. The Montage is just too clean. I hate using it as a VST controlller sometimes. They need to have options like when activating VRM you can’t seamlessly sound switch but once you turn it off you have the option too. That would be cool I guess. Let’s see what Yamaha has in mind. It’s a flagship I expect a lot from the Montage. I just pray they’re listening to our feed backs and applying the work! I pray to God they do.

Note that sometimes the reality is that in order to support both options - you have to eat up routing channels or other resources. Or there may be some details like setting up the resources for SSS or VRM must be done as a one-time operation during power-on and cannot be re-tooled during runtime. So I asked, in ideascale, if it's possible to support VRM -or- SSS. But I'm perfectly prepared for an answer that even that has stumbling blocks. Things aren't always as simple as they seem. Much of my attempt at contributing is to try to carve out the next gen. Although anything possible to get with a firmware upgrade is gravy.

My takeaway is a different reaction than yours. I was really happy to get such a direct answer (from the R&D department - not "executives" ) about the development path of Montage/MODX and why things are the way they are. Without fluff or misdirection or telling me I'm silly for asking for a feature. I think it's great and also demonstrates there was some effort to do this.

At any rate - yes, hopefully we'll both be satisfied equally at the result of the ideascale.
