Please help me. I noticed that the "Orchestra Del Mar" performance on my Montage6 was missing after I upgraded from version 2.50 to version 3.00. It was one of my favorite performances. If it is lost because of the upgrade, is there a way to retrieve it in version 3.00 or load the performance from Yanaha by downloading it onto a USB drive then transferring ti to the Montage? Your input is much appreciated!
I’m fairly certain it is exactly where it was before the update — please look again.
From the HOME screen:
Press [CATEGORY SEARCH]
Set the “Bank/Favorite” = All
Set the “Attribute” = All
In the box with the magnifying glass type: Del Mar
That should be enough to find it.
It’s right where it has always been
Let us know.
52 New Performances were added with 3.00 update, no Performances were removed.
Dear Bad Mister,
Thank you for your accurate assessment and solution to my problem. Your step by step instructions worked perfectly! My Orchestra Del Mar performance was not lost forever. Before moving on to apply the instructions, I did look through all 16 Montage performance screens as you suggested but it simply was not there. It usually appeared on performance screen 3 before the upgrade as I remember it. You can imagine how relieved I was to locate it and play it again after completing your step by step commands.. I surely appreciate your expertise and pinpoint accuracy in assisting me with my situation. You are a valuable asset to Yamaha Music Corporation!
Screen 3? If you're talking about the Live Set - then yes, every firmware release there is a factory preset portion of Live Set that showcases the latest Performances added to the most current version of firmware. And often when the next firmware is released, these are changed (no longer showcasing the older firmware new Performances in Live Set).
However, Live Set is only a shortcut to the actual Performances. When you remove/delete a shortcut (or when the factory shortcuts change) - this does not affect the Performances they point to. The Performances are still there - and are cumulative. New firmware does not delete previous firmware's firmware.
If you happen to like the Performances that are organized in the Live Set section dedicated to the latest firmware release *and* you want those Performances to stay in Live Set after updating firmware - then you need to copy these Live Set entries to your user Live Set. Which will be a way to backup these.
In Montage V3.0 firmware, there's a live set page called "Best Of V3.0" with entry 1 as "Electronik Symphonik" and entry 16 as "The Polysynth MW". You can bet that this page will be gone and replaced with a "Best Of V?.??" (whatever the ?.?? version ends up being).
In Montage V2.5 firmware, the same Live Set slot was called "Best of MOTIF XF" and had "Orchestra Del Mar" as the 2nd Live Set entry. The color was Lilac and the Slot Name (extra information section) was "CHILL OUT Style ARP". That's if you want to completely recreate the same look as what you were seeing with V2.5.
... another way to think of Live Set is like shortcuts on your computer's desktop. When I add a shortcut to some program on my desktop - it points to the real program so I can easily launch the program from the desktop. I can delete the shortcut and this does not delete the program itself. I can still launch the program by looking for it on my hard drive and double-clicking the program. Likewise, you can delete Live Set entries and these have no affect on the original Performances themselves. Either factory preset Performances that you cannot ever delete (such as Orchestra Del Mar) or even user Performances that are pointed to by Live Set entries. Although you can delete user Performances - you cannot delete them by remove a Live Set entry.

Hi Jason,
Thank you for the explanatory details to help me navigate the factory presets and Performance Sets on my Montage. You were correct that I meant to say Live Set Page 3 when I referred to the location of Orchestra Del Mar before the upgrade to V3.o.
I especially appreciated the summary overview of how the Presets were stored and shortcuts that can personalize your favorite presets. I printed your page and inserted it inside my Montage Instruction Manual that came with the instrument. That way I now have a ready reference that is much easier to read and understand than the Yamaha Instruction Manual.
Thank you again for your invaluable input, knowledge, and experience with how to use and enjoy my Montage!
Just FYI: The Factory Preset “Live Set” has no other purpose than to help potential customers, seeing the instrument for the very first time, and to help retail sales people (tasked with conducting ‘tours’ of the product) — find the variety of programs without having to deal with stepping through the massive catalog of data, one-by-one.
Back when synthesizers had 32 or 64 programs, this type of “Best of...” Bank was not required, with MONTAGE you have 2,707 factory Performances on board, which means trying to play all of the sounds for a minute is not going to be just a half hour or hour, you’d need to hang out in the store for two straight days (no eating, no sleeping, just playing)... a minute each = over 45 hours of sounds.
Each Page has a theme...
Yamaha programmers and specialists hand-picked the 256 sounds you see in the factory “Live Set” as representing the fundamental concepts.
With each major introduction of features, you’ll find these “Live Set” Best of... Bank may change.
Imagine working in a music store and getting the news that Yamaha added so many new effects, (Spiralizer, Mini Filter, etc.,) or you have a potential customer who never heard FM sounds, or you get a potential customer interested in the orchestral sounds... the factory LIVE SET allows us to inform those on the front line about newly added features, when possible. And it places the most commonly asked about sounds in a quick access way.
The USER LIVE SET area is massive by comparison. Each User Bank has 8 User Live Sets, each with 256 slots (2048 Live Set locations).
Each Library will also have 8 User Live Sets with 256 slots each!!!
“Live Set” only point to data elsewhere in the instrument. Think of it as a convenient “Set List”... no one at the factory knows what your set is going to look like, so concentrate on creating your own Set List....
Remember it is designed so you can use a Foot Switch to advance through your Live Set list.
