Well I'm testing my setup with full 8 part keyboard control while playing all 16 parts and I'm not getting/hearing any MIDI looping. Sounds amazing and if you perform in the "mixing" screen and select "Mute" bank on the far right you can pair up channels without glitching sounds in any combination for loads of fun all while with full local control "ON". I'm not sure where the MIDI echo is coming from on other setups. Having too much fun to stop now.

For fun I substituted a drum per BM test into parts 8 and 16 and no drum echoing at all with full local control and 16 parts sounding normally.

We should clear up some lingo for clarity sake. The drum "local on/off comparison" causes a millisecond down beat delay. Nothing that affects anything except if you were making a recording. The echo that I heard on my first experiment was seconds later replaying the tone. These are very different situations to me. In conversation here I don't really know which situation is being discussed. In a live performance with reverberations all of the room a millisecond offset in a piano key strike to a DX synth tone WHO CARES? If I control these 9 thru 16 channels with a remote MIDI keyboard I'll get exactly the same delay unless I play a millisecond faster. Perhaps I'm not understanding what the fuss is about. The 2 second echoing however is a nuisance but my setup has none of this going on which is what I consider to be MIDI looping of a signal. For example [press a key once] = tone (Not) [Press a key once] = tone......tone ......tone (fading away).

BM, can you pass davids ideas along to the engineers? There has to be a way of internally doing this with a mild software adjustment as opposed to tricking the Midi into the desired 16 parts that now as we see CAN be controlled via keyboard. : ) Thanks David!.

If you try this remember that when you go back to normal Montage performances (since the MIDI cable is installed in-to-out) that you'll either have to disable the zone control or change from [MIDI] to [USB] under the utility menu. If Yamaha were to make any internal mod they'd also need to add an easy way to disable/enable without having to go into sub menus to make a change. Or make it a program option within the performance itself instead of a global setting.
