Soundmondo Issues

I'm trying to download some sounds from Soundmondo to my Montage. Initially I was trying the new ones from Nicholas Semrad but they wouldn't sync with my Montage so tried others and they wouldn't sync either.

I've had issues with Soundmondo in the past and struggled with it. I find it clunky and poorly designed - it really doesn't instill confidence with the user interface and confusing search parameters etc. I've always managed in the end to get it to sync but tonight it just won't do it.

It says that I'm connected and signed in and offers me the Sync button which I press but nothing changes on my Montage. It takes me to a page with options to type in for the type of performance with a Save button at the bottom.

I don't use Soundmondo very often because I find it infuriating to use so I can't rule out that I'm doing something wrong.

I couldn't get the browser (Mac, Big Sur, Chrome) to work either in the --> To keyboard direction (worked the other way). The iPad Soundmondo app worked fine for the Semrad Performances.

I didn't try Windows.

The checklist of "gotchas" for Soundmondo is pretty long and as time goes on, browser security policies are likely to undermine what once worked. Thus far, the various development groups have been slow to react. However, perhaps filing a bug report (here, Ideascale, phone/email support) will move the process along faster than otherwise.

Thanks for trying. I was using Chrome and Windows 10. I only ever use Chrome for Soundmondo, I use other browsers for everything else but we are forced to use Chrome for Soundmondo. I've never connected my iPad to my Montage but might have a try doing that later when my annoyance with Yamaha software has subsided a little.

Why do Yamaha make everything difficult for people with their websites? This forum, even though it has had a few updates, I still have to re-sign in every time I leave the forum and come back to it. The Soundmondo login kept doing that as well. I uninstalled the Yamaha Steinberg drivers which required a reboot, then installed the latest, went back to soundmondo and I had to sign in again even though I was signed in less than 5 minutes ago.

In the past I've bookmarked several useful pages for both form threads and helpful articles from Yamaha, a lot of these links are now not valid because they've been moved elsewhere aaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh 🙁

They don't even have one sign-in for all their synth sites, no, they make you create a new account for registered products, forums, ideascale, soundmondo. I've lost track of all the different sign-ins that I've had to create for them. So filing a bug report becomes a nightmare in my mind because you don't know where to file it etc.

I spent over 30 years developing commercial software and am retired now so want a more simple life, but with Yamaha it seems that will never be possible.

Rant over. I love my Montage and my MODX and my MOXF synths but am totally fed up with the company and their software for the way in which they frustrate and make my life more difficult than it should be.

My setup consisted of Windows 10 and Chrome. Soundmondo is the only slime rancher 2 website for which I only use Chrome; I use other browsers for everything else. If my frustration with Yamaha's software ever subsides, I may attempt connecting my iPad to my Montage for the first time.

I have had success with Soundmondo via Windows 10 & 11 OS using Chrome.
I believe that the latest Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver for Windows 11/10 (64-bit) needs to be installed for it to work.

Note that I usually first open a 'Preset' Performance (Home) on the Montage ... probably not necessary though. Then in Soundmondo I select a Performance that I want to Sync/download to my Montage. When I click the 'Sync' button, it sync's/copies that Performance down to 'memory only' on my Montage, so it should then be THE Performance that is active on the display, of which I should then be able to check out, and if I like it, then in order to keep it, I need to Save it as a new performance.

I had some success with finding decent Performances by checking https://yamahasynth.com/apps 'APPS', clicking on the Soundmondo link on the left part of the page, and checking out what various Yamaha 'Featured Users' added.

Not sure if this was helpful or not.

My Mac's driver was 3.1.1 and it looks like 3.1.4 is the latest. I'll try updating and see if that makes any difference. I know it doesn't directly apply to the OP - but worth updating my response if the (Mac) driver is involved.

After updating to the latest driver (v3.1.4) - soundmondo my Mac now works using Chrome testing a few Semrad Performances (Builder's Arp and Fade NS).

Thanks. I've just summoned up the energy to try this again. So I uninstalled the 3.1.4 driver that I'd installed previously and then reinstalled it using the same download and it's working now. It makes no sense to me at all as it is the same driver version 🙂

Yeah - and I think the old driver I was using should have worked fine too. There's probably cobwebs in the OS that throw things off requiring a re-install. Windows I know is particularly problematic and I have to reinstall much more frequently there. I can "see" when Windows goes south because the device name will have extra dash numbers in it. Under Mac, this is the first time I had to reinstall a driver to get something to work. Seems both environments have their issues so driver reinstall will be on my list of fixes if I run into similar problems in the future.

BTW: the Windows issue involves changing USB ports and how the OS caches up device names assigning a new (different) device name when you change ports. This throws off Soundmondo. Under Mac I didn't think I'd ever seen this before but maybe changing USB ports on Mac can cause the same kind of issue.
