What about these , do you think there good to use with Montage , I was dreaming about them but don't know how they sound ?
Hello Mr: Spock - I think I would be more than happy with a pair of those. They're hand-built and Made in England. Not many such about these days. Problem is they cost an eye-watering 4 Grand plus ... but deliver pro-studio quality. 'What they sound like' is always a personal thing, though. I like a bit of colour spread across the board, which these wouldn't give ... I was never happier than in the old days, with a bombproof amplifier and pair of 12" cabs from Torque - they could give the Albert Hall a run for its money ...
I'm 2 to 3 weeks away from receiving my MONTAG8! On my gigs I will be using a Yamaha MGP16X Mixer and a pair of QSC K10 powered speakers. At home I'll use a Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 USB Audio Interface connected to a pair of Mackie HR624 powered studio monitors.

Hello Peter, I'm still wading through reviews (and reeling from the prices!) and I must say your Behringer B2031a 'Truth' speakers are way in front at the moment, in that they do have a flat response and are adjustable to suit the room. Still beginners, though. The Tyros is a much more forgiving beast than the Montage, so I dither still, particularly as I won't be using large numbers of the presets ('thump-thump' and 'screechy-squelchy' ones) as they are anyway. But the brass is disappointing after Tyros, so that's probably down to the speakers. How nice it would be if Yamaha brought out a dedicated speaker set as they did for the Tyros series! Matched perfectly and reasonably priced, with a quality of sound more than good enough for anyone over about 50 ...
Hi Rod, the Behringer speakers are very good value and ,as you say, give a flat response which although adjustable for position in a room are not quite suitable for gigging (I tried once). The MS05 are well matched to the Tyros 5 but whoever designed the connecting cables should be sacked, I've also tried the Montage through the MS05 and it was very acceptable even without adjusting any EQ. The Stagepas 300 gives good all round frequency responses with the Montage but has limited EQ adjustment. I think the Tyros voices are better and more easily edited than the Montage but there again they are different beasts, Tyros definitely wins with brass , woodwind and guitar voices.

Hello Peter - agreed all down the line! My Tyros 3 uses MS02 speakers, work fine - and the connecting cables are indeed ludicrous! The Montage doesn't have a 'woofer' output, so how did you connect your MS05s? Might be worth a try with my MS02s ... interesting you think the sounds on the Tyros are better - I had the same heinous thought, but decided it must be the speakers ... but then, the Tyros 5 costs considerably more than the Montage 7, so that's another factor to add to the equation! Still caught in a dilemma - will Yamaha be offering a dedicated speaker set? After the runaway success of the Tyros, I'd have thought they'd have one out by now ... I'm not a gigging musician (I don't consider myself a 'musician' at all) so just the home speakers will suffice. Sigh! Plough on ...
Hi Rod, the MS05 has different connections to the MS02 , phono plugs from main-out to the sub-woofer via a sealed rubber block and an 8-pin connector (very flimsy) which also houses the right hand speaker connector. The left hand speaker cable comes direct out of the MS05 to the left hand speaker. I have never seen such a mess in my life, they have built the designers doodle. If you Google the MS05 speaker cable you'll see a drawing of it. Because there isn't an 8-pin connector into the Montage you can connect the MS05 inputs to the Montage main-out .
I also think the guitar sounds of the Tyros 2 are far better than the T5 and in some respects I wish I'd kept my T2

Hello all - further to the question of speakers, I have spent the past couple of days re-arranging my music room - mostly because I wanted to be able to play my old Korg M3-73XP having used its speakers (my old Alesis M1s) for the Montage. Dug out my even older Chesley 4 channel pre-amp mixer (had it over 20 years), and hooked everything up. The mixer has a +/- 12db bass/treble control on it, as a bonus. However, I was amazed at the difference in sound interpolating the mixer has made. Even with the bass/treble controls at 0, the boominess has gone, and the treble is far sweeter. Tweaking the bass/treble for each sound produces excellent results, but I will use it generally at zero and only tweak for particular purposes.
Another surprise was the headphones - I have several sets, none top-end (the best are Sennheiser HD558s) and downwards, but tried them all. No complaints with any of them, but the best results came from the cheapest, cost me €12.27 from Leclerc's, originally bought for the television. They yield clear, clean sound all across the board.
You must bear in mind that I'm a (very! senior citizen with 30% hearing loss, which no doubt explains a lot, but I'm happy not to need to spend money on better speakers. Changes aimed at one thing has produced results in quite another! And I can play my Korg again - I swear even it sounds better! All I need now are some 8 metre long MIDI cables (due to the geography of the room) so that either can play the other ...
I use the Yamaha HS 80m monitors. Just a little older version of the HS8's... I find with my Montage 8 they sound great. And I am very picky about my sound. I think you would be very pleased. Ron
