I was reading this review here. http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2016/02/05/yamaha-fm-x-synthesis-way-more-powerful-than-a-dx-7/
and one comments on this review said "I'm eager to play it and hear if it sounds any better than my SY99. I was hoping the Montage would also have the SY99 engine, but unfortunately, it does not. HUGE mistake by Yamaha; it would have been the worldβs best all time synth. If only I was running the engineering department in Yamahaβs synth division!!!"
Hmmm... Huge Mistake? This guy hasn't even tried it yet! LOL
So I was wondering (for those in the know) how does the Montage stake up against the SY99?
Thanks!
There's already a long blog here by BM concerning this topic. The magic is in the circuitry and not in the specs. They are different.
"Sounds better" is very context sensitive.
Montage sounds much much much much much much much better than SY99. The sonic clarity and detail in the Montage beats pretty much any other DSP synth.
1) As for creativity, what is the length of a piece of music?
2) As for ease of use, Montage beats SY99.
3) As for synth architecture, see 1)

Cool! Do you have the link? I'll try to find it. π
