Sys-Ex for Extended LFO

The extended LFO was the primary reason I upgraded.
But how can I control it from MIDI?
I can’t find its address in the Data List document for 3.0. “Extended” doesn’t find it. None of the “LFO” results seem to be the one I want.
I don’t see the table for values -> frequencies.
I’ve even tried searching for known constants that might be associated with it, for example “415,” “19F,” “1356.59,” “1356,” etc.
Is there just no sys-ex for this?

I am searching the montage_en_dl_i0.pdf that came with the update. It contains wave-folder values so it is definitely the correct version, just nothing about the extended LFO.

To control the Extended LFO via MIDI you can assign the Element LFO to an Assign Knob within the Control Assign Knob matrix.

For example, you assign the Extended LFO on a per Element basis. Navigate to Element Edit and highlight the E.LFO Speed parameter.
The [CONTROL ASSIGN] glows indicating this is an assignable parameter
Press [CONTROL ASSIGN]
Move an available Assign Knob to make the assignment; you will be take to the “Mod/Control” > “Control Assign” screen where the selected Knob has been assigned to control the E.LFO Speed
_Choose the “Curve Type”. “Standard“ will allow you increase and/or decrease it linearly
_Select the “Polarity”. “Uni” will allow you to change it from its current value and back to that setting. “Bi” will allow you to change it above and/or below the current setting (if not already set to theoretical minimum or maximum)
_Set the “Ratio” - this will determine the direction of movement +/- recognizing you can’t decrease it below minimum, nor can you increase beyond maximum... how quickly you arrive at these extremes will depend on your start value. The Ratio value will determine how much change occurs. The larger the value above or below +0, the more the LFO Speed will be offset by the assigned controller.

To control this assignment via MIDI use the CC number of the Assign Knob you assigned, for example, if you used Assign Knob 1, the default is cc17. You can change this on a per Performance basis on the Performance Common Edit > Control > Control Number screen.

If using AWM2:
F0 43 10 7F 1C 02 41 ep 20 dd dd F7 __ where “e” is the Element (0-7), “p” is the Part (0-F), and “dd dd” is the data value “00 00” thru “03 1F“

If using FM-X:
F0 43 10 7F 1C 02 48 0p 53 dd dd F7 __ where “p” is the Part (0-F), and “dd dd” is the data value “00 00” thru “03 1F“

I see. So that’s where it is.

In fact, my MIDI files use sys-ex to set up the curve, polarity,and ratio, but hooked up to use modulo, because I discovered that the modulo insertion effect clicks when changed in real-time. It doesn’t transition smoothly between levels, so it has to be set once and left alone.
I use the exact same process you described! I will just have to add another series of commands to hook up the extended LFO then.

Where is the table of LFO speeds from 0-415? Or is it just a completely linear mapping of 0-415 0Hz-1356.59Hz (IE 200 = 653.778Hz)?
[EDIT: Doing the math with low values reveals it can’t be linear, or you would have very poor distribution near 0.]

I’m not aware of one. It’s not really necessary, as this is set ‘by ear’. Sorry, it’s a musician thing. Think of low numbers as ‘really slow’ and higher numbers as ‘really really fast’. No one really asks for vibrato, tremolo, or wah-wah at 1356.59Hz versus 1000.00Hz - not practical from a musical standpoint. If you are tuning its ‘pitch‘ to a specific musical key, again, you’d be best served to do so ‘by ear’.

I had to go back to your videos ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvT6zXOb5W0 etc.) to set up my system again, although I am not certain what I changed that made it start working again. I don’t compose much as we know, but I wanted to thank you for the videos again. You are entertaining to watch and of course the content is invaluable.

Back to the topic, I can accept that I will just have to Jerry-rig the LFO speed conversions (from how they sounded on the original playback device) since I am using the system in an unorthodox way, but it still feels strange that the list is not there, because every other LFO list is there.

I guess I will just have to measure it myself, but I wanted to at least mention that it is strange that there are many LFO tables except for the main LFO most people will be using.

Even if it is expected to be done by-ear by musicians, since the other LFO tables are there, any chance on getting updated documentation that includes the element LFO speeds?

Not true! Ever play the game “Which ones are not like the others?”
The tables you are referring to are all LFOs contained within the Effect processors.

There are no tables for the Low Frequency Oscillators that control the Parts or the Elements. These LFO are traditionally used for musical performance of vibrato (Pitch Modulation), wah-wah (Filter Modulation), and tremolo (Amplitude Modulation). Accept that much of what musicians do, is “by ear” or “to taste”... these are three of them.

Even if it is expected to be done by-ear by musicians, since the other LFO tables are there, any chance on getting updated documentation that includes the element LFO speeds?

No harm in asking.
