Classic
29 kg (63 lbs., 15 oz.) /8
17 kg (37 lbs., 8 oz.) /7
15 kg (33 lbs., 1 oz.) /6

M
28.1 kg (61 lbs., 15 oz.) M8X
17.6 kg (38 lbs., 13 oz.) M7
15.3 kg (33 lbs., 12 oz.) M6

M8X is still too heavy for me to gig with. M6+Poly with 70+ keys weighs the same in sum although each under the arm is manageable. Add a bunch to get Poly that way ($640 through 2x that).

There's a new naming for user files (.Y2A, .Y2U, .Y2L) .

Wondering what product was Y1 assigned to?

Noticed that too but have no idea. It's cool that they sidestep FAT limitations by splitting a file into two parts. I wonder how much faster libraries load now. Someone with a Montage classic and M series should record a race of loading the same library data. Say like the Chick Corea EP. And then in the other direction saving a backup file with the same single library installed so read and write are both examined.

Speaking of files, I noticed Libraries (and I guess user files too) have an option to load single Parts at a time. The manual doesn't go into detail about this but seems like an interesting new lever to pull this gen.

Might be in connection with the softsynth side of it, and maybe sync-ing data between the board and the plugin...

Has there been any mention about the maximum number of libraries allowed? I find the current Montage limit an annoyance to say the least.

Just realized it probably only has to do with keeping the extension only 3 chars long, for compatibility with various filesystems

MODX is already at number 8 (X8U etc), so if this gen would start with 9 (X9U), the following "MODX M" would be 10 (X10U).

Page 14 of the Op Manual

The Library area allows up to 16 library files (.Y2L) to be loaded from the USB flash drive

Although on page 292 there is this:

Library 1–8 (when a Library file is loaded)

That is likely a doc 'glitch' that wasn't noticed or updated.

Given the doubling of memory I think that 16 is the right number.

Thanks. Blake said in the livestream tonight that you can now have up to 16 libraries

Yep, double the memory double the libraries. That worked out like it was supposed to.
