Question: I've created a few Perfs of my own and I'd like to be able to search for them using "splits" as a sub-category. Can I create this sub-category myself somehow? Also, I can't seem to find how to change any attributes of my own perfs to a different existing category or sub-cat. Help.

The performance will "take on" the category assigned to PART 1. So, from [PERFORMANCE] (HOME), touchscreen "touch" PART1, which will bring up an option to "Edit" (touchscreen) - touch that. Then touch the menu option (left-hand side tabs) "Part Settings" -> "General". The first few options at the top are "Part Category Main" and "Part Category Sub".
No - there is not a way to make your own categories on Montage.
Choose a main and sub category that best fit what you are after.
I took "CFX + FM EP" and [STORE] 'd it as my own user performance named "my cfx fm". Then I changed PART1's category to "Brass" main and "R&B/Hip Hop" as sub. Be sure to [STORE] after making the change. Now when I go to category search, there's just one performance that matches "Brass" main and "R&B/Hip Hop" sub - which is the "my cfx fm" performance.
The main guidance here is that you change PART1's category attributes which sets the attribute of the entire performance.
PART1 is also referred to as the "anchor PART" - this quality (holding the category) is one reason why it receives the "anchor" designation.

When seeking to generate your own Categories and Sub Categories you have options via USB to a computer or laptop, or iOS device.
MONTAGE CONNECT is a free computer application that can run as a stand-alone program or within any VST3/AU compatible DAW. You can create your own Folder and Sub Folder system, as you require. This program uses Bulk Dump protocol to recall all Performance settings... it will transfer these to your instrument’s Edit Buffer, where you can play them, edit them and STORE them to the USER bank. (It assumes all Waveforms and Samples are installed in MONTAGE, and will be in place when the data is recalled.)
When run inside a DAW, like Cubase, MONTAGE CONNECT can run completely in the background as it can be setup to automatically capture your MONTAGE settings when you SAVE your Project, and it can automatically restore those settings when you next open the Project. Additionally, you can Load/Save your Perfifmance data using the Steinberg “Sound Browser” feature, which allows folks who own extremely large systems to organize data in customizable ways (making your custom data available to all Projects, not just the current one ... includes various search and ranking criteria. When run inside Cubase the “Sound Cube” icon appears on the top line of the application, which links you to the Sound Browser.
Soundmondo is a free iPhone/iPad app that can “capture” and restore your MONTAGE Performances. Requires a USB cable and a Lightning-to-USB-Cable-Adapter. Performances can be organized into groupings called SET LISTs which can be quickly and easily arranged and rearranged. You could use the Set List function like a folder system.

One work around to achieve this is to include the word “split” in your User performances each time you create a new performance that contains a split. By doing this, you can then utilize the search box (upper right of performance home screen with magnifying glass next to it) to search for any performance that contains the word “split”. Sometimes you just have to get a little creative with this powerful new system. Something that should come natural for us musicians-;) Hope this helps.
