Really trying to get the Montage to be one an integrated part of my liverig, but I don't think I 've been so frustrated over any board I've own. Used it at a gig yesterday and it worked flawlessly when used on its own giving me some great FM sounds, great string sounds, that flute sound etc, even some moogish sounds.

It's obvious that we end users lack some crucial things since, I guess, all of us is trying to reduce our rigs to be more portable we wan't everything from one board. There are recurring subjects being asked about, like key mapping samples, the midi capabilities and the fact that there are limitations both with respect to using the board as a controller or as a module. Over at keyboard forum there are long discussions on Yamaha Montage and Yamaha creativity, well worth at least a listen.

Must say this forum is really helpful in many ways to fix some frustrations or at least answer questions about things that the Montage won't do, you guys moderating this are doing a fantastic job, I salute that! Thanks! As constructive criticism I sense a little bit to much of an overdefensive attitude over the "idea" of what the Montage is or is not.

Perhaps I will overcome my frustrations and the limitations of this board and keep it, or perhaps I will not. There are many great sounds so I will give it another month before I decide...

The forum I'm referring to is the one at keyboardmag, it's a good one for keyboardist in general.

It is primarily a performance keyboard. Somewhat of a combination of the S-series (S90XS as an example) in terms of base features and the Motif in terms of a better user interface (controls/screen) with an FM engine added. Items like sequencing or sampling that are done in the studio environment require external equipment - which stays at the studio. The "Motif/S90" part of the keyboard is upgraded in terms of constructing an AWM2 performance due to more simultaneous waveforms this go-around. This is where you'll see references to being able to have "simultaneous Motifs" when building an AWM2 performance.

Vs. the Motif, a summary can be found: https://yamahasynth.com/blog/motiftomontage3

In fact, in describing the differences/enhancements/equivalent aspects of the Montage vs. the Motif, the entire blog series does serve as a good overview/intro to what the Montage is, is not, and what audience it targets.
