Are the YC Keyboards' Samples/Waveforms for B3 Organ the same samples that are on the Montage (preset waveforms)?
Or did they resample a B3 more closely & create new/better waveforms for the YCxx, than the ones that are on the Montage/MODX Synths?

There are no B3 samples in the YC-series of Stage Keyboards. So no, they are not the same data as found in the MONTAGE or MODX.

Or did they resample a B3 more closely & create new/better waveforms for the YCxx, than the ones that are on the Montage/MODX Synths?

Again, there are no B3 or organ samples in the YC products... the H1, H2 and H3 tones in the YC are generated by a Modeling engine.

The other organs (transistor-type emulations) are created using FM synthesis. So while the other (non-organ) instrument sounds — guitars, basses, pianos, electric pianos, strings, brass, synth leads, pads, etc., etc, are based on AWM2 (sample based) technology — none of the organ sounds have ever passed through a microphone!

Please visit the Yamaha.com site and read the backstory on the Virtual Circuitry Modeling organ engine found in the YC-series

Thanks @BM

Very interesting! I've seen (parts of) a few videos on the YC keyboard, mostly just to hear what the organs sound like, one of which did a direct comparison to the Nord Electro 6D, but I didn't hear them say another about a Modeling engine that was the source (probably because I was skipping through to hear the sounds)

Even though I am not a huge organ guy, it would be awesome (if it's even possible) if Yamaha were to add a similar modeling engine to the Montage/MODX with one of the 3 tones you listed, in a future OS update...I think for many people who are seeing Roland just add a new modeling engine to their Fantom, it would turn their heads back towards the Montage/MODX if Yamaha responded with a new engine like the one on the YC...or a VA Synth engine. Even a new piano library or some kind a library would give Yamaha something new to talk about & demo in various videos, etc.

It will be quite interesting to see what new magic is added to the Montage/MODX in the next OS update. I presume it will be the big 4.0 ... knowing Yamaha, it will not disappoint anyone, and increase sales, adding more new customers, while maintaining & keeping existing ones (which builds confidence for future products).

The Montage is such a beast as it is, there is nothing I can't already do with what it already currently has, but it's always fun to see what new features are added in updates. I've recently made great use of the "Wave Folder" effect that was added in a recent update! 😉

yep!

Just add modeling, (too) huh? lol

The first VCM synth engine (YC61/73/88) is available, you can add it to your MONTAGE with a 5-pin MIDI cable and a pair of unbalanced signal cables!

Although not modeled, you can similarly add a nice Yamaha organ engine to the Montage--in a more compact and less expensive package--by MIDI'ing up a Reface YC.

That's basically what led me to post this on ideascale: https://yamahasynth.ideascale.com/a/dtd/263445-45978
