As a new owner of a used MOTIF XF, it would be helpful to have a list of recommended software items and where to get them in the following categories:
1. Drivers
2. Op Sys Updates for the XF
3. XF Manuals
4. Aftermarket software; DAW, Utilities, Voice Libraries and Forums
Yamaha Support sites offer downloads for the first 3 categories. A frustration is making sure the manuals you download are actually the latest but trial and error seems to be the only way to sort this out.
For the 4th category, getting Cubase with a proper activation code is complicated, since this is rarely passed along by previous owners to new owners. Given Yamaha now owns Steinberg, Yamaha could solve this with a "how to" for new owners. Even better would be an up to date list of sources for these items.
Motifator.com is clearly the leading forum and contains a wealth of information. If they were to post a "sticky" with the latest lists, that would be a great help.

Only the original purchaser of the Motif XF is actually entitled to the Activation Code for Cubase. I think that is easy enough to understand. There is no up-to-date listing of sources... Typically, when you purchase a current music production hardware item from either Yamaha or Steinberg you are provided an Activation Code that entitles you to a free download of the current version of Cubase AI. "AI" is a special version that has the ability to provide special features for Yamaha hardware owners. Advanced Integration allows for advanced VSTi audio routing (something typically only found in the top-of-the-line "Pro" version).
The idea is to provide, in the free entry level version, a taste of what computer-based recording and integration brings to the table.
Hopefully, by whetting the customer appetite they will take advantage of the upgrade path to the Pro version!

Thanks for your help. I will try the Yamaha Canada customer service site to see if they can provide an activation code for Cubase.
