Equipment being connected is iMac (mid 2011) with Firewire port;

The difference may only be cosmetic, or its that one says it is no longer available. It's a data cable. Get two (one as a backup - you should always have a backup, anyways) then in about 10 years, if either one or both have failed, you will know which one is better.
I'm kidding, but really... they both are Belkin, (that's a quality brand) reach out to them. I bet they are as stoked to talk about cables as we are to talk about Motif XF and its computer connectivity! I betcha...
