Fact Motif and Montage are Apples and Oranges; therefore, can a new "USB Expansion board" with accompanied updated Software be created for the Motif XF users properly switch from Firewire to USB "16 mono Channels" to DAW. it seems to be a reasonable tech update that many XF users are willing to support to keep up with the changing technology. Dave Smith easily updated his Prophet 6 when the OB6 arrived with new features that could be updated in a software download. Perhaps Yamaha would have the same appreciation for its past supporters. ( The hardware cost 250.00 to 350.00 plus software download seems reasonable) .

New features are one thing... I doubt seriously that Dave updated any synth from 16 buses of FW to 32 buses USB audio (I know Dave) and while some things are updateable, this request is simply not practical. Just FYI, some of the features found in Montage were added to Motif XF, before it was discontinued, and while the Montage was still in development. Hopefully, you updated your firmware and added the HD Reverbs, and Guitar amp models. Of course, it was not announced that these were being developed for the Montage (it was still a secret at that time) but those effects we added for XF users benefit. Those were possible without any hardware changes. (I know users think these keyboards are developed between annual trade shows but it can be three to five years of development).
And while the USB audio protocol is very much based on the MIDI + Audio via a single cable protocol (originally mLAN), this is not something that would be easily switched in existing Motif XF's, sorry, it simply is not possible. Sorry.

I would agree with your "doubt"...though I never implied he did do that update in my statement. What I implied was Fact: Features in the newer 2016 OB6 (apples) had additional effects not originally available on the Prophet 6 (Oranges). He released a download update for the owners of the Prophet 6 (Oranges) that would provide the same effects features as the newer OB6 synth (Apples)...... to be appreciated and used by those who supported his company by buying an earlier synth model.......

If Yamaha creates a "dongle" for FW to thunderbolt 3 cable (which doesn't exist at the moment... stupid apple) I will be personally FINE. Phil you said you'll give me an update on it 🙁
