The settings for REMOTE CONTROL are handled on the Motif XF on MIDI Port 2. This is very important information for setting up communication between the Motif XF front panel and the DAW.

In the Motif XF
Press [UTILITY]
Press [F5] CONTROL
Press [SF1] REMOTE
Select DAW = Cubase (I'm going to assume that Studio One has a similar Remote Control format to Cubase... this will impact just how much control works.) These templates were developed with the software makers, Cubase, Logic Pro, Digital Performer, Sonar and Pro Tools.

When the front panel DAW REMOTE button is pressed and is flashing - this converts the entire front panel of the Motif XF to a REMOTE CONTROL SURFACE for the attached DAW. Commands are to be isolated on MIDI PORT 2. If, while in DAW REMOTE mode, you hear Note-on events when you press buttons, this is a clear sign you have not routed the MIDI PORT 2 to exclusively handle REMOTE CONTROL messages in the DAW. If messages from the Motif XF front panel wind up on Port 1, naturally they trigger sounds.

You can understand that REMOTE CONTROL is simply MIDI messages - it uses PORT 2 exclusively. Each button press (is simply a switch) they use a NOTE-ON on a specific KEY, on a specific Channel to be that switch. So buttons are switches; sliders and knobs are continuous controls, but all are just MIDI Messages designed to open windows instead of playing a note, changing a knob value with a continuous control. This is why it is imperative to establish discreet communication on PORT 2. Find the DAW's REMOTE CONTROL SURFACE setup and ensure that PORT 2 is used for this communication. It is a derived from the old Mackie protocol. The Transport should work to control Start/Stop/REC/Rewind/FastForward and you should be able to use the DATA DIAL to scroll...

In the Motif XF Data List booklet it does outline what each of the REMOTE CONTROL layers does... with Studio One, you will need to experiment to find out how much works.
Hope that helps get you started.
