My church just purchased the MOXF8. I am very excited to learn it. We have a Roland Fantom X8 that I want to connect to the MOXF8 and be able to control the sustain of the Roland through the Yamaha. How can I accomplish this?
Hi Todd,
Welcome to Yamaha Synth. We moved your post to the MOXF Forum heading as you don’t own the keyboard you posted under.
This is the easiest MIDI fundamental, it requires that you have a Sustain pedal (Yamaha FC3A recommended) plugged into the MOXF8.
You need a 5-pin MIDI cable connecting the MIDI Out of the MOXF to MIDI In of the keyboard you want to control.
In the MOXF:
Press [UTILITY]
Press [F6] MIDI
Press [SF4] OTHER
Set MIDI I/O = MIDI
Midi works to communicate between the the master controller and the slave tone generator via channel network. “Channels” were chosen because musician know how to operate the TV. You simply match the Transmit channel of your master controller and your slaved device to communicate.
Just as you would tune your tv to a particular station to receive information from that transmitting tv network.
If you are transmitting on channel 1 from the MOXF8, the receiving device must be set to channel 1 to respond by sounding the notes you’ve triggered.
I have everything just as you've said but I am still not getting any sound out of the slave device (Roland Fantom X8).
You have everything setup on your Yamaha... for info on how to operate your Roland contact them... make sure it is set to MIDI and set to receive the channel you’re sending.
