HI & Thanks in Advance ...
I would like to use my Cubase, which came with the MOXF 8, to remember or "recall" the VOICE and/or PERFORMANCE setting I used in the original recording of midi data when it is played back when recorded in one long stereo midi track. For example, as in making a switch from Concert Grand Piano for the first song, to Piano Strings or to a sound such as Cold Space in PERFORMANCE in the second song and continuing in this manner, and to have this VOICE/PERFORMANCE setting recalled in playback, again when done in a long, yet separated, single stereo Midi recording. My situation is I record several different "improvised" songs with different sounds/VOICES drawn upon intuitively one after another in the professional work I do, stopping the sequencer when one recorded song ends and starting when the next song I play begins. This ends up being one long stereo track with several stops and starts between the individual songs. The Cubase makes the distinction between the songs when I look at the Midi data (the starts and stops and restarts are divided), yet I want the Cubase to REMEMBER or RECALL automatically the VOICE or PERFORMANCE I used along the way when I play it back from the mid data, as I often cannot remember which VOICE or PERFORMANCE I used. Is it possible to have this done automatically with a particular set up OR am I stuck trying to remember the correct sound and order I pulled up and used? Any help would be greatly and gratefully appreciated .....
What you want to be able to do is have Cubase record and document when you select a Program on the MOXF8. MIDI provides for such messages as Program Changes. It is not really clear, what exactly you are doing, but it sounds as if setting up Cubase to record your Program Changes as you make them should solve your problem.
If this is not enough, please try to explain some of what you are doing. Terminology is important in trying to get exact answers to issues.
In general, your DAW (Cubase) can be set to document what VOICES you are using when you are recording. This can be setup in a formal fashion... however, if you do not know exactly what you are going to do next then - we have to recommend that you adjust your workflow (slightly) in order to allow Cubase to better capture your impromptu moves.
Here's what we mean. You have to document at least the VOICE you start with: You do so by pressing the button that recalls the VOICE after you have begun recording - this way the VOICE's program number is written into the MIDI Track data. Or you can use the Program Select function built-into the Cubase Track Inspector. It can memorize the VOICE you start with.
Any subsequent VOICES you select will automatically be recorded as Program Changes and will allow the selections to be repeated on playback.
What you cannot do and record to Cubase is switching between VOICE mode and PERFORMANCE mode, that is not a command that is "sent" by front panel buttons of the keyboard (as the Program Changes within the same mode are)... a special messages is required to affect a MODE CHANGE (different from a PROGRAM CHANGE).
