Recorded a song in MOXF sequencer - want to record each track separately to CUBASE audio

I have been using the MOXF for several months and have a bunch of questions that I'll enter in different posts. I've recorded a 12-track song to the MOXF internal sequencer. I've gone through the exercise of recording the composite audio stream to CUBASE AI. I'd like to record the audio stream from each MOXF track to a separate CUBASE audio track. I see one can do this by using the SOLO button to select a single track and recording the audio to a CUBASE track. Then pick another track and repeat.

But how would one synchronize the tracks?

Thanks
Todd

Hey Todd,
I think it will be easier if you move your song from MOXF to Cubase project first, simply export a midi file from MOXF and import it into Cubase and it will keep your tracks in sync. Check the article below for a step-by-step tutorial:

https://www.yamahasynth.com/moxf-category/moving-a-moxf6-moxf8-song-into-a-cubase-project

Hope that helps.

Kalin,

Thanks. And once the midi is in CUBASE, how do I render it to audio (obviously using the MOXF tone generator) AND record it to audio in CUBASE?

I do want to know how to record separate audio tracks directly in Cubase - e.g. if I'm working with analog inputs through the MOXF.

With Cubase as the Master MIDI Clock Source (via MOXF Port1), the MOXF will be able to slave to the Tempo set in the DAW Project. Set the MOXF to MIDI SYNC = MIDI, SEQ CTRL = In ... this will ensure that the MOXF starts/stops and runs in sync.

You don’t have to use the Solo button, when transferring data as separate audio tracks, you can setup the MOXF for dual Stereo (USB1&2 and USB3&4). Go to STUDIO and simply create/use an AUDIO CONNECTIONS > INPUT for USB 1&2, since all internal Parts are normally routed to USB3&4, simply assign the Parts you want Record as audio to Outputs USB1&2, each by each. Arm an Audio Track Set to Receive audio via the Inputs 1&2.
After you render it to audio you can then Mute the source MIDI Track data.

The Analog A/D Input is assigned to USB1&2 by default... recording via the MOXF’s input can be discreet if you isolate it on the bus (you do so by simply ensuring nothing else is currently routed to use that bus.

OK - when I'm in front of the synth and Cubase I'll try this.

Thanks!

Bad Mister ---- Finally sat down with your instructions and the machines. Your directions are too terse and cryptic for me to follow. You wrote:

>>>With Cubase as the Master MIDI Clock Source (via MOXF Port1), the MOXF will be able to slave to the Tempo set in the DAW Project.
Please give me step-by-step instructions on how to set this

>>>Set the MOXF to MIDI SYNC = MIDI, SEQ CTRL = In ... this will ensure that the MOXF starts/stops and runs in sync.
I go to UTILITY -> MIDI, and the only settings for MIDI SYNC are "auto", "MTC" and "external". You designate setting 'SYNC = MIDI' That's not an option!

Please --- I need step by step instructions to implement "Cubase as the Master MIDI Clock Source (via MOXF Port1), the MOXF will be able to slave to the Tempo set in the DAW Project."

>>Go to STUDIO and simply create/use an AUDIO CONNECTIONS > INPUT for USB 1&2
This I can do --- in Studio->Audio connections in CUBASE, I set up two inputs buses, one for USB 1&2 and one for USB 3&4 I then add an Audio track in the Project menu and in the corresponding Track Inspector set the Stero Audio Track input to the bus for USB 1&2.

>> simply assign the Parts you want Record as audio to Outputs USB1&2, each by each
How does one assign a Part (track of a song) to USB 1&2 ???

Thanks
Todd

Unfortunately, you don’t tell us which version of Cubase AI or what type of computer, and which operating system... that you running, so an answer with general details is what happens. Asking for details when you give so few seems like why the responses are so general. The more you provide the more specific the answers tend to be... just FYI...

MIDI SYNC MOXF
Synchronizing the clock’s is done as follows:
In the MOXF, press [UTILITY]
Press [F6] MIDI
Press [SF3] SYNC
Set MIDI SYNC = auto or external (“auto” is MIDI SYNC which allows the MOXF to run at the Tempo set in the DAW without starting Cubase—useful when working with Arpeggios; “external” is MIDI SYNC where it waits for Cubase to start and will not be able to run when the DAW is stopped). Had you tried either of these it would have worked.

MIDI CLOCK Setting in Cubase
In Cubase AI,
Go to TRANSPORT > PROJECT SYNCHRONIZATION SETUP... > MIDI CLOCK OUT > DESTINATION = “Yamaha MOXF6/MOXF8-1” (port 1)
This allows Cubase to send MIDI Transport commands to the MOXF on its Port 1

Assigning MOXF Parts to USB Outputs
You assign a MOXF PART to an Output by calling up the SONG MIXING or PATTERN MIXING setup you are using... say, for example, your 16 Part Setup is in SONG mode.
Press [SONG]
Press [MIXING]
Press [EDIT]
Press [F4] USB I/O
here you can see each of the 16 Parts default to USB 3/4.
You can isolate a Part or combine the Parts you which to record by assigning them to USB 1/2 — then setting up an Audio Track to receive data from the INPUT you created for USB 1/2.

Great - I'm running CUBASE AI 9.5 on Windows 10. Thanks! Will try your detailed instructions.
