I have the A/D input set up and am hearing my instrument fine, but I'm trying to record it to a track on a pattern or song and am unable to. I can't find anything in the manual about this either- only ways to send it out to record on the computer. There has to be a way to record directly onto the song/pattern, right?

No, and that is the biggest difference between the MOXF series and its bigger brother the Motif XF series. The Motif XF series featured the ability to record (sample) by placing audio into the Song or Pattern sequencer. The feature was called the "Integrated Sampling Sequencer".
The A/D input input on the MOXF can be routed via its own USB audio bus to a DAW software, like Cubase. The MOXF has 4channels (dual stereo) outputs via USB.
