You need to go to the Official Yamaha download site. http://download.yamaha.com
Select your country
Type in your MODEL NAME
When the SEARCH RESULTS appear, verify by clicking on your exactl Model: MOXF6 or MOXF8

Find the download for Firmware 1.12
This will be a zipped download.

It includes the Instructions (read me file) with the download. Please unzip the download on your computer, copy the 8L26OS_.PGM file to the root directory of a USB stick you know works with your MOXF. Place the USB stick in the MOXF

Power the instrument On while holding the [AD Input/Mixed] button.
Press the [REC] button when instructed
The update takes several minutes. Relax. Do not interrupt it.

When completed, the screen will ask you to Reboot.

I've tried this with 2 memory sticks, 2 separate downloads, made sure it's the only file in the root directory of the stick, and when I press the flashing "REC" button, it says "file not found" every time. Tried with a 32 gig stick, and a 16, factory formatted AND reformatted by the MOXF. Still no luck. These are both USB2 sticks. These successfully backed up the unit, so they are recognized. So why does the firmware not update? HELP!

Sorry, you are having issues, but reading what you’ve written versus the actual firmware update instructions, we find several differences. Maybe you thought writing them down was too much trouble... we assume that you executed them. But that’s all we can do is assume you powered On the instrument while holding the [AD Input/Mixed] button, and then pressed the [REC] button when instructed.

Other things to verify:
You are using the recommended PA150 Power Adapter
You mention the USB sticks were used to backup data, was that data able to be restored by the MOXF (in other words, saving to it is one thing, was the MOXF able to restore from it — is what you want to verify).

In reality, there can be other files on the drive when you update, but only 1 MOXF Updater File is allowed. 8L26OS_.PGM
I recommend an 8GB USB stick
