I would like to save select voices to one of the user presets in the Moxf Editor. However, I see only one voice in the window and cannot configure the software where it will allow copying from one bank to another into the 16 slots. At least not easily.

Manual is no help on this/

Hi James,

It is not at all clear what you want to do with the Editor. When you see only one VOICE you are in VOICE mode. VOICE mode only supports one VOICE at a time.
If you switch the Editor to SONG or PATTERN mode you can have 16 VOICES, one in each of the 16 PARTS of the MIXING setup. What is it exactly you wish to do?

VOICES, PARTS, MIXING you need to be clear with these terms.

A Voice is a single sound.
A Part is one of multiple locations found in the SONG MIXING or PATTERN MIXING setup. One Voice can occupy a PART, and the MIXING setup is capable of holding 16 Parts.

Thanks for the reply

I would like to save my favorite voices into the various voice slots in User Bank 1, making it easy to access on stage. The editor/librarians I have had in the past have made it easy and simple to do that.

You can literally drag n drop Voices using the Yamaha MOXF6/MOXF8 Editor Standalone/VST.

Create an Editor file using the Editor's "Bulk" > "Data Sync" option, capturing the User 1, 2, 3 and User Drum banks.
The file type will be .X6E

You can then go to FILE > "Import" to Import that data to the left side of the split screen.
Now you literally drag and drop data from the left side (file) to the right side folder locations in any order you desire. The items on the right side represent your current internal banks. If you do this while ONLINE you are rewriting your internal banks.

When you have them in the order you desire create an All data file to back up your work.

Another option many of us use is John Melas Total Librarian. it does what you want to do. I use it but I generally move Performances, not Voices. His tool lets you manage your entire library of all Voices, Performances, Songs, Masters, User Drums, all in one file.

He has a suite of tools for MOXF and multiple Motif models so be sure you select the MOXF tools. He has voice, performance, waveform editors if you want to delve deeper. I bought the full set but I lived for several years on my Motif XF only using the Library Manager. I found sudden use for his waveform editor when I wanted to transfer from my XF to my new MOXF. One neat feature of his Total Librarian is you can move Voices and any dependent Performances will "know" where they moved to. Be careful with this, you have to follow his instructions closely

Google John Melas and you'll find your way to his website. its another option.

Thanks guys for clearing this up. I will try Bad Mister's solution and then also take a look at the Melas librarian.

Thanks again

Okay, now how do you do this when you want to pull a preset voice and store it into a user bank for performing?

On the MOXF itself:
Recall the Preset Voice
Press [STORE]
A screen appears that allows you to direct it to any USER location. Normal Voices to User 1, 2 or 3; Drum Kit Voices to User Drum

In the MOXF Editor:
Highlight the Preset Voice
Go to the EDIT menu
Select COPY
Navigate to the USER Bank folder
Highlight the slot you wish to overwrite
Go to EDIT
Select PASTE
If this is done while the Editor is "online" the data will be written into your MOXF.

Is there a way to do this in the editor where you have a window on one side with the preset voices and a window on the other with your user slots? Much like the window that opens when you choose "import" from the file menu and you have a split window. Doing the copy and paste as you suggest seems to be rather cumbersome.

Use your favorite way to COPY (CTRL + C) and PASTE (CTRL + V)
For alternate methods please see the short but informative 52 page manual.
