All the sounds of the MX are imported from the Motif-series. The MX has a fixed Waveform ROM. You cannot add new Waveforms, but hundreds and hundreds of sounds can be made from the provided Waveform ROM. In order to build new MX Voices you will need to obtain the John Melas MX Total Librarian and Editors. The Editors reveal a depth of programming that goes beyond what you can access from the front panel. Within the MX is an eight Element architecture very similar to the ones found in its bigger bronthers the MOXF and Motif XS/XF series.

The second question is easy: Music
The FM ESSENTIAL is a programmable fm synthesizer that can be used alone or layered with the sounds of the MX. Practical use is to create killer multi-dimensional sounds - the sound from the app travels to the audio outputs of the MX and the front panel knobs allow you to control and change the sound of the FM Synth.
