Hello dear Yamaha synthesizer specialists!

We have two valuable purchases, the Yamaha mx49 and Cubase Elements 10.5. This is like continuing to work with other Roland and Yamaha models. Very tricky MX49 in view of the difficulties of using the front mini menu. To get to the pattern settings bought this Cubase. A big request is to tell us the steps for setting and saving patterns through Cubase Elements 10.5.

Best regards,
Anvar, Oleg

The MX49 is always in Performance mode with 16 Parts, one per MIDI Channel.
The Rhythm Pattern is always Output on MIDI Channel 10.

When you wish to use the Rhythm Pattern and record it to a DAW like Cubase, you want to first synchronize the clocks — you will make Cubase the master clock and then set the MX to follow (slave) to the Cubase clock. When properly synchronized, you’ll start Cubase and the MX Rhythm Pattern will not only start but follow the Tempo as set in Cubase.

You need to connect the MX to your computer via a USB cable
We’ll assume you downloaded and installed the “Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver” appropriate for you computer.

In Cubase: Setup MIDI Clock Transmit
Go to TRANSPORT > PROJECT SYNCHRONIZATION SETUP... > “Sources“ tab—set Timecode Source = Internal Timecode
Click on the “Destinations” tab—set “MIDI Clock Destination” = MX Port 1
Click OK

In the MX49: Set MIDI SYNC and Sequencer Control
Press [UTILITY]
Using the Up/Down Cursor arrows select “MIDI” > press [ENTER]
Scroll down to find and make the following setting:
“MIDI I/O” = USB
“Local Control” = Off (this disconnects the MX Keyboard from the MX Tone Generator... in order to hear the data it must be received by a MIDI Track in Cubase and echoes back to the MX Tone Generator. The Track will send data back to the MX on the MIDI channel you select.)
“MIDI Sync” = External
“SeqCtrl” = In (this allows the Rhythm Pattern in Part 10 to Start and Stop when you Start and Stop Cubase).

In Cubase create a MIDI Track set to MIDI IN = MX Port 1
Set the MIDI OUT = MX Port 1 and the Channel number to 10
Touching the keys should let you communicate with a Drum Kit in Part 10
You can press the [RHYTHM PATTERN] button to select from the different on board Drum Patterns.
The Pattern will play and the MX Play [>] button will flash when you start the Cubase Transport.

That should get you started.
Hope that helps.

Dear Bad Mister!

We hope that You are well as your words
Thank you very much, sir, for the extremely useful comprehensive Guide to connecting and using external MX synthesizer templates with Cubase in the “Setting up the MX as an External Instrument in Cubase Pro 8”.
Different scenarios are considered in the same way, and we will need them very soon.
How simple and ingenious you are to write that a grateful reader should fly with happiness!

It so happened that we saw and read this before your feedback on our request for templates and cubes. Unfortunately, we will only be able to move towards our recommendations 1-2 weeks after the reunion and the end of the temporary separation in Moscow and the region.

With best regards,
Anvar, Oleg

Please excuse us for the stupid and incomprehensible questions to us when editing drums. We will be grateful for your help in eliminating at least some of the incomprehensible,.
1. Does it happen that any percussion sound turns into a double one with a delayed echo from the percussion sound? For what reason could this happen?
2. When setting up any of drum note, a sentence from the synth “switch to Voice mode” ?. For what purpose does such a proposal arise?

With best regards,
Anvar, Oleg
