after opening download there are no files present
If you are looking for a file by looking at the USB stick with the MX screen you will NOT see the file. It is not a file you can load to memory, it is an Updater file that requires you power up while holding a specific button while the USB stick is connected.
Unzip the file to the root directory of a USB stick.
Power ON the MX while holding the PLAY button, then follow instructions that appear on the screen.
can someone please tell me where to download the correct file to update/increase the sound for the mx49 thanks. the one on stienberg products web doesnot work there are no files within the download.

Copy what, please give us details. Without them we cannot tell you what you've missed. What was the name of the file you copied to the root directory of your usb stick?
If nothing happened... ? What is your definition of nothing? Did the instrument power up or are you telling us "nothing happened". Check your power source if the instrument did not power up.
What does the screen say... If truly ... Nothing. Then let us know.
Please give complete information as accurately as you can. "Nothing" is not informative. If the unit boots up as normal, that is different from "nothing", see my point?
If you are having difficulties unzipping the file please call Customer Support, they can step you through the process over the phone.
@Ruth Ann welcome...
The MX49/MX61 like all Yamaha Synthesizers have available updates to their firmware. These updates allow the products to remain relevant in today's ever shifting computer environment. Updates are released whenever the product engineers deem it necessary. If you are a computer user, updates are apart of the landscape, and nothing to worry about, certainly.
Enjoy your MX61! Congratulations.

thanks for your help bad mister all sorted(firmware volume update)
but now have another problem when I assing midi in cubase 6 ai and use sounds from mx49 the same sound comes out of each different midi channel, even when I open something like nexus the nexus sound will play aswell as the mx49 sound at the same time
In general, when using your MX with a computer based DAW, like Cubase AI 6, it is customary if you are recording MIDI data to shut LOCAL CONTROL = OFF.
LOCAL CONTROL, as the name implies, determines if key presses, knob movements, pedals, and wheel movements are interpreted directly by the internal (local) tone generator (LOCAL CONTROL = ON), or if the messages generated by these movements are sent OUT via MIDI first (LOCAL CONTROL = OFF).
When working with MIDI in the computer based environment you will want to turn LOCAL CONTROL = OFF. The messages from the keybed and various controllers goes to the software initially, where you connect it to a MIDI TRACK. The MIDI OUT channel and assignment determines whether the MX receives the data or you route it to your other plug-in (Sorry we don't know what Nexus is, but assume it some other synth you own).
Press [UTILITY]
Use the DOWN or UP CURSOR to select 02: MIDI
Press [ENTER]
Use the DOWN or UP CURSOR to find "LocalCtrl" (Local Control)
Set Local Control = OFF
This will only allow you to hear the selected device as set by active MIDI TRACK. As you move to a new MIDI Track in Cubase you will hear it respond. If no MIDI Track is active (highlighted) you will hear NO SOUND (do not panic) - this is what Local Control means... the messages go OUT via MIDI... you use your software to COMPLETE the circuit to the TONE GENERATOR.
Make sense?
thanks for the help much appreciated
i have downloaded the file named " MX4961SETUP.PRG", i copy to my usb drive, turn off my MX61, plug my pen drive to the synth, hold the "play" button and power on, after the updater version´s screen, it appears a message; it says "installer not found", what can i do? thanks.
Hi Anderson,
It is very important to know which product you own.
MX49 (2012)
MX61 (2012)
MX49 BK / MX49 BU / MX49 WH (2016)
MX61 BK / MX61 BU / MX61 WH (2016)
MX88 (2017)
Perhaps you are looking at an update for a product you don't own. The MX49 and MX61 came out in 2012 and were replaced by the MX49/MX61 in Black, Blue or White in 2016... the hardware change was more than just cosemetic, however, full MIDI and audio compatibility with iOS devices was added in the new 2016 models. And most recently the new 88-Key MX88 joins the MX-series line up.
Which do you own?
Other possibility... the download file must be unzipped and the .PRG file placed in the root directory of the USB stick... it cannot be in a folder
Thank you Bad Mister, It is a MX61.
i am not sure about the version, i guess that it version 2012. How can i check this?
And about the other possibility;
I place the file unzipped and copy in the root of the usb drive, but it says "installer not found".
What firmware is in your MX61 now?
