when I midi my Krome 88 into my Yamaha MX61 is there an easy way to bring the Yamaha down thru the Krome in layer mode(Yamaha layer mode)

in other words use the Korg as Keys only.... the Yamaha MX61 as main sound but with the layer ie piano&string

wanted a MX88 but couldn't afford it but I want to use the Krome to control all the MX61

any suggestions

The MIDI Channel for each MX PART is set 1-16 to match the Part Number. You can change the MIDI channel with the MX Editor or by using a Parameter Change (Sysex) message. Changes to the PART’s MIDI channel can be stored/memorized locally in the current Performance.

Do you have the either one of the Editors?
Can your Krome send System Exclusive messages?

Example:
To set PART 2 to MIDI channel 1
F0 43 10 7F 17 37 01 04 00 F7

F0 = Start of Sysex
43 = Yamaha ID number
10 = Parameter Change for first device
7F 17 = MX product ID
37 pp 04 = Hi/Mid/Low parameter address, pp is the Part (00-0F)
00 = the Data byte which is the MIDI channel 1-16 (00-0F)
F7 = End of Sysex

Hi BM What editors are you talking about sorry... you cant do it with the Yamaha mx61 within
some of my other keyboards you can change the midi channels individually
If only my wife let me trade up to the MX88 lol I wouldn't be using the Krome88

Let me take to her πŸ™‚
Best value under $1000

Back when the MX version 1 came out (2012) we offered a free Performance Editor (VycroMX) I’m not sure if it is still available or still supported but... www.vycroMX.com (get the Performance Editor).
Then there is the fabulous John Melas Tools for the Yamaha MX... definitely still available.

Both allow you to freely change MIDI channels of any Part and to then store that to the Performance

I specifically said β€œVycroMX PERFORMANCE EDITOR”
I did not recommend a VycroMX Pro, specifically,

Please get β€œVycroMX Performance Editor” I thought I was clear!
