When I turn the MX61 on, all the voice settings are 001. I change, for example, the piano to 005, the organ to 010, the strings to 015, etc. but when I turn the keyboard off they all go back to 001 again.

Note: I'm only working within Performance 001.

I tried setting all the numbers then doing a "STORE/ENTER/YES" but only the sound on the screen at the time is saved.

I'm not editing the voices. I just want the numbers I select to remain selected after I turn the keyboard off.

HELP!!

Thanks!!

Peter

Sorry, maybe I didn't ask the right way.

I just want the sounds I select in the 16 settings to stay where I set them after I turn the keyboard off so they are still there when I turn it back on.

(i.e., Piano sound at #010, Organ sound at #015, String sound at #020, etc.)

Thanks again!!

Im going to translate or try, to translate what you are asking. If I'm not correct let me know.

I just want the sounds (Voices) I select in the 16 settings (Parts) to stay where I set them, so that when I power back on the keyboard, it recalls where I place d them.

Once you edit a Performance in order to update it from what it was originally we recommend you rename it as part of editing it. This way you can identify it as one YOU have made yourself. Once you have placed the different VOICES (the word "sounds" will not help you if you try to look it up in the manual) VOICES are placed in PARTS (the word "settings" will not help you if you try to look it up in the manual). PARTs there are 16 of them in each Performance.

Once you have the sixteen Voices setup in the Parts, 1-16
While still in [EDIT] select “01:Common,” then press [ENTER].
Select “06:Name,” then press [ENTER].
Enter an original name for the Performance before storing it.
Press the [STORE] button, you are offered one of 128 locations to store your updated Performance. You will be overwriting one of the 128 internal User locations.

Please see the Owner's Manual for details about Naming and navigating.

When you have placed the 16 Voices into Parts 1-16, and stored your Performance you can access them after recalling the Performance:
press [PART SELECT] and use buttons [1]-[16].

Thanks for your help. I didn't realize I had to click on "Part Select" to call the Performance back up.

Bad Mister - I dont think this guy knew what you were talking about and you were incredibly arrogant. See if you can answer this - I changed both Performance 1 and Performance 2 , stored all the changes and yet they just returned to there originals ! Did the same on Performance 3 and the changes took and are still there. I know its nothing to do with Part Select like that other guy !

Just to jump in here:

If you describe in detail how what you are trying to do and the steps you are taking to achieve what you want I think we can figure out what's going on. It is important to use the MX terms when describing things: Performances, Voices, Parts, etc.... Page 17 of the Reference Manual has a good overview on how the memory in MX is organized.

I understand it can be frustrating when you think you did something and it doesn't do what you thought it would do. I can assure you that the MX works as described but there might be something you have missed when saving.

Lastly, the MX quick tips video series is good. It's pretty basic but you might find something you didn't know in there. Part 1 is here. See if this helps.

Question on top of this...similar. I have two sounds...whistle..and some brass synth sound. I set it up on the MX49 as a split. (i.e the whistle is on the top half of the keyboard and the brass synth sound is on the bottom. ). Now I'd like to save that so I can recall that setting during an evening's performance. I tried saving it (named it etc) but it didn't save the split. Just the one sound. Any thoughts.

Only STORED data gets SAVED.
When you create a Performance you must STORE that Performance to Internal memory before you SAVE it.

STORE is the operation of writing your Performance to Internal memory; initiated by hitting the [STORE] button.
SAVE is the operation of writing the user settings and programs stored to the Internal memory to a File on a storage device (usb stick). This is initiated in [FILE] mode.

The STORE routine is detailed in the Owner’s Manual On Page 29 (second column) “Storing a Performance - Performance Store”
Here you will see the important items you’ve left out of your recounting of what you did... the routine lets you select a location 001-128, and informs you as to which Performance currently occupies that location before you Overwrite it. Did you see this screen?

If you have done all of these things correctly your newly edited and Stored Performance will appear when you access “Performance Select”.

Performance Select is where you can view the Performance Name...
Press [SELECT]
(the alternate view in the screen shows the Part Names). Make sure you recall your Performance by Name.

Let us know.

So I may be asking the same thing only a different way, but my question is, is there any way to store voices for quick recall for a live setting. Let's say I need a concert grand, organ, strings, trumpet, and pad for quick recall. How can I store them? Any help is appreciated.

Put the Concert Grand in Part 1, the organ in Part 2, your Strings in Part 3, the trumpet in Part 4, and the Pad in Part 5... of a single Performance... name the Performance something unique (name of song you use this for, for example).
Use the [PART SELECT] function and buttons [1]~[5] to make immediate switches between instruments

On the MX61 does anyone know how to save all 16 parts in a performace when edited and renamed? I've read Bad Misters reply and have gone through all the instructions carefully and its not saving all the parts. Only saving parts 1 - 2 and 10. What am I missing?

Rather than trying to figure out what you are missing, let’s go the other direction.
Give an example of what instruments you want to place in which Parts.

A Performance has 16 Parts.
When you initially call up a Performance you will typically be playing Part 1. And if [LAYER] or [SPLIT] is lit you are additionally playing Part 2; And if a “Rhythm Pattern” is activated, you are triggering drums on Part 10, correct.

But in that same Performance are different single instruments in each Part 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16.
These are the rest of the “band” … normally you would use these when working with Sequencer (like Cubase) as the other instruments in the band. You would typically be playing/recording them one at a time (overdubbing) using MIDI Tracks to record. But in a live performing situation, it is very convenient to put the sounds you need while performing together in one Performance… (instead of having to hunt all over the place to find your next sound).

You can see, select and play them by pressing the button labeled [PART SELECT].
When this button is lit, the bottom line in the screen will indicate which Part # you are playing 1-16
Use the UP cursor repeatedly to make sure you at the top of the list of parameters
Use the Right/Left cursor buttons to move between Parts 1-16. As you move Part to Part the top line will show you the currently assigned instrument to that Part #.

Use the Data Dial to change instrument Category. AP (acoustic piano) OR (organ)…etc.

Explore the Factory data, each Performance has 16 different instruments

[SELECT] when lit you are in the Performance Play position. 1, 2 and 10.
[PART SELECT] lets you select any one of the 16 Parts in the Performance to play directly.

See Page 30 of the Owner’s Manual (Changing Voices smoothly while performing) to see an explanation of why this is useful.

Hint: Moving around with the Cursor arrows is the key to the MX user interface. Moving Up/Down a list, and moving Left/Right across the screen.
