I'm looking to upgrade my speakers for live gigs. I currently use a pair of JBL EON15 G2s and play my board (Fantom X8) stereo. These speakers are 300 watts a cabinet. I play small clubs and restaurants so volume is never an issue. I am looking for audio QUALITY....great fidelity, especially in acoustic piano and Rhodes. Do any of you play STEREO through a pair of Yamaha DXR12s or DBR12s? Do they give you enough bottom end? How do your keys sound? Are the speakers quiet? I am so used to playing through 15s that I am cautious to change to 12 inch woofers. I do not play keyboard bass so I wouldn't necessarily need the 15" woofer. I am looking for PRESENCE in the mix. I want the keys to sound like they do through my headphones as much as possible. Should I go with the DXRs over the DBRs? If they share the same amplifier wouldn't they sound about the same? Help me here.
So the questions are.....will the 12s give me the great sound I want from my board? (clean, transparent, punchy, warm, nice low end).....and what advantage does the DXR have over the DBR?
Thanks
The DXR definitely sound a step up from the DBR. The DBR are lighter in weight - so the big difference is the enclosure.
I went to a speaker evaluation about a month ago, and have to just mention - these are the next thing.

The DZR - the DZR10s are unbelievable for keyboard. You have to hear them - I know it sounds crazy. You would assume a 10" would need a sub, but these were unbelievable by themselves. I was so blown away. But these are brand new, and are definitely worth a listen because they are something special. They come in 10", 12", 15" and a 3-way w/15" (with or without Dante).
Check them out. (There's a pair on my holiday shopping list!)
