Hi

Hello, Iยดm new to this forum and a new MX49 user also ๐Ÿ™‚

I have looked at the John Melas editor for MX and thinking of buying it,
as I understand there are in the 49/61 128 user voices that can be programmed
with the editor, I wonder when you have programmed them with your sounds
is there any way to access them form the MX frontpanel buttons or can you
only reach them via the editor software? I mean on the synth there are just
the 16 buttons for the preset banks... I hope I have expressed myself clear
so that you understand what I mean, English is not my main language... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks /G

Welcome to Yamaha Synth!

Your question is very clear. When you create a Voice for the MX49/61 with the Voice Editor you can STORE the User Voice in the internal MX. There are 128 User Voice locations and 8 User Drum Kit locations. Initially these are all unoccupied. USER VOICES are placed at the end of list by "Category". Here's what that means.

The numbered buttons [1]-[16] also act as Categories, button [1] is Acoustic Pianos, [2] is Keyboards, [3] is Organs, and so on.
You can increment through a Category by repeatedly pressing that same Category button.
You can advance through the various subCategories by holding [SHIFT] while tapping the Category button.
Say you select the KEYBOARD Category [2], repeatedly hitting the [2] button will increment you through Keyboards... One-by-one.
Holding [SHIFT] while tapping [2] will jump to the first Voice of the next SubCategory ... electric Pianos, to FM electric Pianos, to Clavinets, etc.

This allows you to rapidly scroll through the list of Voices in each Category (FYI: [SHIFT] + [INC/Yes] advances by +10; [SHIFT] + [DEC/NO] = -10).

The point is all VOICES are listed by Category, the User Voices do not have a "Bank" in the traditional sense. If you create a Voice by editing or using the front panel, you can STORE that Voice in on of the Categories. Your Keyboard sound would be added as the last Voice in that Category. Every Voice is categorized and will take its place under one of the sixteen Category buttons.

If you select Guitar as you Category, SHIFT + GUITAR will jump from Acoustic Guitars, to ElectroAcoustic Guitars, to Electric Guitars, and finally User Guitars. User Voices you create is in the Guitar Category it will take their place on the Guitar List. User Voice follow all the internal Preset Voices in each Category.

There is no User Bank or way to move through one User Voice after another... They are sorted by the Category buttons only. When selecting a Voice for a Part, you would naturally start by saying what type of Voice do I need, and look for it by Category.

Hope that helps.

Ok, I get how to save patches as user edits. The problem is when I shut the power off all of the patches I edited all go away. When I try the 'Hold down SHIFT and repeatedly push the category button', the first push jumps me to voice 5, the second push takes me to number 43, the third push to number 118and no further. If i then let up on the SHIFT button I can get to numbers 119-122. There has to be a way to have the keyboard save these edits when the MX49/61's power is turned off. Anyone have any answers to that one?

The USER VOICES stored in memory should be there when you power back on. If they're gone then you probably accidentally activatedthe POWER ON AUTO Factory Reset function. (This should only be used in retail stores and trade shows, or schools and rental pools, where they want to purge the User settings and memory on each power on).

If that is not what you want (and clearly it is not what you want) please deactivate the function.

[UTILITY] > [JOB] turn PowerOn Auto Off.

See page 69 of the Reference Manual. Turn it off and store that preference to your instrument's memory. Trust me you had to have turned that On, because the default is to keep user programs in memory.

Hope that helps.
