I've been looking at powered speakers for my keyboards. I am interested in the best audio quality for small clubs and restaurants. I am currently using JBL EON15 G2s and they sound pretty good. We use them as our PA as well. I'd like something exclusively for my keyboards. I am curious if a higher SPF speaker will give me better fidelity. I have looked at many different cabinets but have narrowed it down (I think) to the Yamaha series DBR15 or DXR15. I know the DBRs are the lowest cost but will they give me the same SOUND QUALITY as the DXRs? (If you closed your eyes could you tell any difference at moderate levels?) I am more concerned about acoustic piano and Rhodes. I tried out the QSCK12.2s over the weekend and they just didn't have enough bottom for me. I have read reviews where they say a 10" cabinet would sound great for keyboards but I just don't see that. I was curious about the BOSE F1 812 speakers as well.
Any opinions?
Best thing for keyboards is a stereo system... I recently attended a speaker evaluation session that blew my mind
The 10" for keyboards is heaven... imo
Worth a listen, even without a sub, these do a very righteous job. 137dB SPL and they sound smooth.
As you spend more, expect the sound to be better. Lighter in weight means a tradeoff... wood sounds best, but of course, is heavy. Every purchaser has to weigh (sorry) these tradeoffs... the D-series from Yamaha ... the new DZR-series have some trickle down Nexo technology, that make them compelling.
Of course I play in stereo....why would any good keyboard player not do so? I have not heard of these DZR speakers. They look incredible as far as specs. Are they available for purchase?
DZR10 available from many retailers. DZR10-D for just about $150 more. A small tax for a feature which may not be needed now, but may have more relevance later.
Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R
Any keyboard players out there use the DSR15s (stereo)? Does the wood make a big difference in fidelity? I'm not looking for the loudest speaker....I just want it to make my Fantom X and CP4 to sound as good as they do in my headphones.
Correction to my previous indication - looks like retailers are taking pre-orders.
Expected availability: Dec 3, 2018
