That article is for those who want to automate Receive Channel using an external sequencer. If that is not what you are doing, you don’t have to follow that. Since that article (from 2015) the refaceCS/CP/DX/YC have been updated (a couple of times). You can now easily set the Transmit and Receive Channel right on the units.

Make sure your refaceCS is updated to firmware version 1.30
With each firmware update Yamaha will issue a New Feature manual including all the newly added routines (Supplementary Manual) here is a Link…

version 1.30 reface Supplementary Manual

You can follow the detailed instructions for setting the refaceCS “RECEIVE CHANNEL” at the bottom of page #9.

Basically, you power on while holding the “A” Major chord, as shown in the graphic. This puts it in a special “Advanced Setting” mode.
The OSC lights will all light up to indicate it is in the right mode.

Then while holding down just the D#2 key (lowest D#), press a key between C3 and E4. (The graphic shows you which key corresponds to which MIDI CH.
For Receive Channel 2 you would hold the D#2 and tap D3.
Look for the all the OSC lights to light up confirming your input.
Then power down.

When you next power up your refaceCS, it will be set to Receive Channel 2.
It will remain set to Receive Channel 2 until you change it… even between power cycles. To change it, you must use the “Advanced Setting” mode; power on holding the “A” Major chord… etc

If you get stuck or have an issue updating your reface, post back here.

Make sure your refaceCS is running firmware version 1.30
