Hi Reface DX users,

Many people have asked questions like: Is it possible to load classic patches from old 4-operator Yamaha FM synths (DX100, TX81Z, FB01, etc.) directly into the new Yamaha Reface DX?
Until now the short answer was: No, this is not possible.
But now there is a better answer available: visit The Reface DX Legacy Project !

Enjoy!

Great, I've been looking forward to something like this! 🙂

So if I donate to you the patches I will receive are converted ones that can be loaded into the Reface DX?

Thanks

Yes! The individual syx files on my website are already converted to RefaceDX format also. But it's a lot of separate files to download if you want to try them all. If you send a donation and an e-mail address you will receive the complete collection in one zipped e-mail attachment.

Just FYI: there are over 4000 free Reface sounds available https://soundmondo.yamahasynth.com

Yeah, the Soundmondo website is great and I can highly recommend it! I fact I did first consider to use the Soundmondo site as home for my Legacy patch collection. But it was and is much easier for me to upload, update, and maintain my project with 1000+ patches on my own website without needing to connect a Reface DX keyboard using the WebMIDI interface in a Google Chrome (or Opera) browser.

Hmm, Web MIDI allows people all over the world to participate. Share sounds, music clips, videos etc.

Btw- you don't need to use that, perhaps you should check out the reface Capture app again (it continues to evolve). You do not have to connect via Web-MIDI to download sounds. iOS devices can't run Chrome's Web MIDI so you can connect direct to Soundmondo from your iPad/iPhone and download sounds even while not connected to your keyboard... Connect to your reface later to audition them. Just sayin'

Yes, I have read about the improvements in the iOS app and that sounds great. But I don't own an iPhone/iPad. Any plans for an Android app somewhere in the future?

By the way, I did not say I don't like Web MIDI and/or Soundmondo.
All I was saying that it's not suitable for me to host and maintain my Reface DX Legacy project. (The project is driven by a bunch of Python and Bash scripts that semi-automatically do the SysEx conversions, modify the html sources, and upload the .syx and other files to my website using ftp. Can't do that on Soundmondo)

I invite everyone to download the patches from my website at http://refacedx.martintarenskeen.nl , and to edit and improve them manually with new Reface DX features like the Effects, and share your own edited versions on Soundmondo!

We have many Android users on Soundmondo. Androids have no problem using Google's Chrome browser. Actual Android apps ...we all are awaiting the wild, wild world of 'droids to settle down to a single solution. Meantime, if you don't have an iDevice, use your Android with Google Chrome.

I fixed some bugs in my conversion software, made some improvements, and added the Low-Fi 2-OP FM keyboards PSS 480/780 to the Reface DX Legacy Project.

The provider that was hosting my Reface DX Legacy project is ending their hosting service. So I had to move to another host. Unfortunately my new host somehow refuses *.syx files to be downloadable. I have found a workaround that isn't so bad for users: If you now try to download one of the syx files, you get a zip file with all the syx files on the selected page 🙂 . For example all converted 128 TX81Z patches, or all 100 converted YS200 patches. There have been some improvements lately in my conversion engine, so it can be worthwhile to visit my website again if you already know it. Enjoy!

You can stille find it here: http://refacedx.martintarenskeen.nl

Awesome! I have FB-01 and PSS-480, and just got a reface DX. I really love the DX's clean sounds, and it's really neat to be able to hear the same patch across different hardware. Very informative!

Thanks for your hard work on this!

I often layer the sound of my RefaceDX with the sound from the FB01, the Reface DX loaded with converted versions of the FB01 sounds. Because of minor differences between original and converted sounds it really sounds great when you layer them. Also the combination of the bright and clear Reface DX with the darker sound of the FB01 works very well. And then add the Reface DX effects. Wow. 😀

Oh no! It seems the site is down. Possibly due to the host ending their service? Is there any chance this will come back online anytime soon?
