I was very fortunate earlier this year to purchase a brand new in box 1990's Yamaha AN1x !! I LOVE IT !! Also was able to update the OS with version 1.04. Thank you eBay sellers. I've been a drummer for over 35 years but always loved synthesizers, and now I can finally learn to play this and my other keyboards. Only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to get those long ambient sounds from it yet. I've seen some demo songs but they don't show settings to do this. Any help for an old newbie?? Thanx in advance. And, thank you Yamaha for 40 years of beautiful musical instruments....and this new website.

Dr.X 😀

A google search should put you in touch with several sources for additional voice libraries for the AN1x. There is quite a group of appreciators out there. For example:

And lots more...

We hope you enjoy your AN1x, its quite a beast of a synthesizer.

I don't know the specifics of the AN1x, but as in any synth, you are able to get the long ambient sounds - called 'pads', cause they fill out the song - adjusting the volume envelope to have long attack, decay and release and a big sustain level. Also, you can modulate any other parameter with LFOs (low frequency oscillators) to get an evolving sound. Enjoy your An1x!

Congratulations! I actually bought a brand new AN1x back in 1998 but to my regret I sold it in 2005. Now it's 2015 and I've just ordered another "brand new" (!?) AN1x (there's an eBay seller apparently with quite a few An1x old stock boxes). Estimated delivery is by the end of the week, can't wait to play again the AN1x!

Hey,

How is the AN1X?. Is it fine without the latest OS, or are earlier versions buggy?

The AN1x rocks!! My AN1x arrived with 1.02 firmware but got it upgraded to latest 1.04 firmware (bought chip from ebay vendor "scientific-community").

Firmware upgrade required replacing the old 1.02 chip with the 1.04 version. To check AN1x OS version press +, - and 0 while powering up the synth.

I just recently purchased an AN1x with version 1.02 chip. I have not come across any type of issues. Though, what does the chip 1.04 improve or fix? Is 1.04 still available?

Thanks,

Yes, the AN1x 1.04 chip is available on eBay (that's how I got the upgrade for my own AN1x)

What does the 1.04 improve over the 1.02?

Version 1.04 corrects a displayed "Battery Low" error when the battery is fine.

It also corrects a problem with the depth of the effect return when modulating same.

No new features or anything like that.
