Hello, I have yamaha MOX6 and i want to connect it withmy PC. Connection via USB port is done and devices for MIDI IN and for MIDI OUT are visible.
I can set the MIDI OUT in any midi player installed on my PC. When I want to play any MIDI file in midi player connected to MOX6 MIDI OUT, I cant hear any sound.
I tried to setup some channels (by setting of MIDI Transmit channel) and then MOX6 play only one channel from my playback. I tried to open all 16 transmit channels and then i can hear all voises but there is another problem. All voises have assigned the actual instrument set in my keaboard or the instruments have to be set by some preset or by hand. Next problem is that there is no more free channel for my own performance.

What I need: I need play MIDI file from my computer and use MOX6 as tone generator (sound card). It will make some background for my play on the same keyboard.
I expect that all voises are corretly assigned as they was arranged and set in MIDI file.
I can play the playback from usb flash stick. It is not what i want because I have an application where is collected MIDI file, lyric and other informations together and are synchronized (like karaoke). So then the text is automaticaly rolled as the MIDI file is played in background.

Is there any way how to setup the MOX6 and my computer to fit this requirement?

Many thanks for help

Lukas

In order to use the MOX6 with a computer you need to install the appropriate version of the β€œYamaha Steinberg USB Driver” for your particular computer type.
You also must be in one of the two SEQUENCER modes, SONG or PATTERN, in order to select multiple sounds for use with your external sequencer. Each of the 16 Parts of the associated [MIXING] setup can be placed on a MIDI channel 1-16.

Thank You for quick answer.
- USB Driver is installed, that is correct (I believe πŸ™‚ )
- Second step is not clear for me. If I understand it correctly then the instruments assigned in MIDI file (acc. to some standard for ex. GS) are not taken into account and I have to assign them again in Mixing setup and store them (somewhere) for next use. Correct? (I have more than 100 songs πŸ™ )

Please translate, I don’t understand.

If you have 100 songs, I presume they use different instruments, I have to ask... I played in a band for many years with the same instrumentation... but MIDI files use different instrumentation song to song... if that is the case, you will need to either select new instruments for each one (and yes, you can store the setup in the MOX6 SONG or PATTERN MIXING mode) or if you have input Bank Select and Program Changes into the Track data.

Oh, is GS the Roland protocol? Well that will not necessarily work... but if there are GM or XG Bank and Program messages, that will work... the MOX6 has been β€˜taught’ to lookup an appropriate MOX6 sound in place of those protocols. I cannot say it would do the same for GS.
