Hello all,
New user here. I was hoping to find some insight on rescuing a Yamaha MU90R: I received as a throwaway, because it's having issues when playing the drum channel (the bass sound in particular is heavily distorted).
I have run the tests and they all seem OK; however, the strange thing is that the 1KHz test is not giving me a clean tone, where I was expecting a sine wave.
I don't even know if this is the right place to ask, but admittedly, I am not particularly knowledgeable about these devices, and while I have some basic electronics skills I thought it would be best to ask before futzing around. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Update (sorry for the double post): meanwhile, I've tried a few things. Done a factory reset, checked battery charge and tried running audio through the A/D input: the result was clean, both by playing a random video and by playing a MIDI file through the system softsynth.
This leads me to believe that the preamp circuit and audio passthrough are working properly, suggesting that there may be an issue with the actual tone generator circuitry. Is it possible that ROM data simply got corrupted on its own, or could this be down to hokey capacitors or VRMs?

Sadly, this would mean there is an issue with the actual tone generator side of the unit.
