A number of performances will not stop playing when I select another performance. I can't give you the performance names at this time but, I will when I get back to the Montage.
Specifically, here is what is happening. its just the release portion or some remnants of the previous performance, not the full-functioning program or else, one would have both playing simultaneously.
For example: if the current performance has super knob and-or ARP movement and you stop playing: fingers lifted from the keys, no sus pedal engaged and nothing connected to Montage other than analog outs then, select an adjacent performance (this adjacent selection is important to note since it only happens then, so far as I have examined and this may apply to non-adjacent as well), now the release or some remanent aspect , especially the super knob is still engaged from the last performance. The new performance is active while the super knob and remnants of the previous are still active. If I now press the keys in the newly selected performance, I still here the release portion of the previous, the super knob is still following the previous performance's programing. I stop for a moment, re-select the previous and re-select the new and it clears. What appears to be happening is the feature that holds the previous performance if you're still holding the keys until you lift your fingers and restrike then the new perf.but, this isn't supposed to happen when all fingers have been released, a new perf is selected, you now engage the keys and the former is partially active with the super knob. movement.

Hey Phil, myself and Rod have experienced the same thing. I think it's conclusive that we have a bug here. How do we submit bugs to Yamaha techs/coders?

Anyone know?

Thanks:)

Phil,
This can happen any time a Performance has a Motion Sequence that is in progress. The keys and/or Sustain pedal when released is fairly immediate, however, an automated Motion Sequence once started can continue for several beats depending on what is programmed.

When switching between a Performance with an Arpeggiator or two going to one that has none, is not a seamless transition not because of anything other than the arpeggio is going to completely stop when Note-one cease for the assigned Part. Motion Sequences have a duration and can even be told to loop. But once started they are like a sample that has been triggered, it tends to continue until it has completed the sequence.

From a practical point of view using SSS to move from a Performance that contains lots of movement, be they Arpeggios or Motion Sequences should be handled with knowledge that the Arp stops, the MS completes its Cycle.

Recall "FM Landscapes" it has an Auto Knob MS that is set to a Speed of 3... when a note-on occurs this started a sequence of eight peaks which takes quite a good amount of time to complete. So the note-on is not hung it is being propelled by the last triggering of the Motion Sequence.

If you move from this Performance to another say Seattle Sections, the FM Landscapes' MS could take seconds or several minutes to complete its "Cycle" and if a MS is set to Loop it will continue throughout (may not be what you want but this programmable, certainly). There are FM-X sounds that take several minutes to evolve... but this is the MS and its settings that make some programs better candidates for SSS than others.

If you find one that gives you trouble we can point out where you can edit the MS to work for your needs...

I've made the argument before that these types of performances which will not continue to actively stay the same through a performance switch get their "SSS" designation (icon on the performance) revoked. How these performances "act" through a performance transition is an interesting problem - still try to do quasi-SSS as is done today, or just make these types of voices act as if they could not participate in SSS (hard cutoff - as if there was a part in slot 9-16). I don't mind the quasi-SSS because at least there's some sound even if the movement (MS) stops. There are some performances which are "worse" than others in terms of how they act - these quasi-SSS performances.

It's not a bug - but a feature. Or rather a side effect of Yamaha's choice not to have motion sequence and ARPs participate in SSS. They do not have an internal duplicate bank of these settings - so switching away from a performance with lots of MS/ARP activity will loose some coherency through the SSS process of switching performances.

If you want a hard cuttof - then [STORE] the performance which has what you see as unwanted "remnants" after switching. Save the name as something which indicates it's your modified version (different name than the preset). Then press [PERFORMANCE] (HOME) then [SHIFT] + [PERFORMANCE CONTROL] to show PARTs 9-16. Touch part 9's [+] to add a PART and add anything - doesn't really matter. I chose Init Normal (FM-X). Since parts 9-16 cannot be triggered with the keyboard (unless selected), mashing on keyboard keys will not make part 9 sound. If you're going to be using an external MIDI controller - either stay away from channel 9 or you can set the FM-X level for operator 1 to zero (0) from 99 so it doesn't sound. Not necessary if the performance is local-piano-keyboard-control-based. Again, [STORE] this modified performance. Now there will not be any remnants because using slots 9-16 (adding the Init Normal (FM-X) PART) disables SSS for this performance.
