Just checking in - it's been almost a year since the last update. Really hoping for a softer velocity curve for the CP73.....
I'm pretty sure another CP update is coming. Earlier this year, on Ideascale, a bunch of CP ideas were moved from the "ideate" category to the "assessment" category (which is supposed to be where they assign them if they are being actively considered), which kind of implies that they have been working on an update.
Today marks a year since the last feature update. I was hoping but nope...
Weird But I actually saw a Yamaha video , just now, on You Tube for the new OS 1.5 for the CP Piano.
It is no longer up. When I saw it had 24 views.
Lots of new piano sounds including a Felt Piano, a couple of synths pads, a really nice string section and saxophones.
I wonder if they released it too early - Swear I'm not smoking anything.
Encouraging. Really hoping for additional velocity curves. No video to be found at the moment.
Not sure. Video is marked as private.
Description of the video:
Yamaha CP OS v1.5 adds two new acoustic pianos and a variety of killer Sub Section synth and instrument sounds to your sonic arsenal. A felt piano, meticulously sampled to create ultra-precise note velocities and intimate layers. An authentic Hamburg concert grand piano, expertly recorded in a classical concert hall to capture every nuance. New synth pads, synth brass, synth leads and a synth bass. New instruments which include solo and ensemble saxes, guitars, musette, tubular bell, solo strings and horn. CP OS v1.5 even lets you personalize the touch of your keyboard to control your music, your way. This sound demo video is performed by Jonas Gröning.

Oh yes!!! Can't wait!
Nice update - the touch response makes a huge difference for me with the EP's - I can get the bark and bite without smashing the keys. The new Hamburg grand is probably my favorite of all the piano - wow! 😀
The demos sound great and the touch response improvements seem to be in direct response to user feedback.

Certainly a fine example of an update done right.
Does appear that they did follow Ideascale and community/field feedback within that. A standard to keep in future. 🙂

Actually, my one disappointment here is that they didnt seem to address much in the way of Ideascale requests. Other than new sounds, AFAIK, they added one new function (velocity scaling), out of 20+ Ideascale suggestions that had graduated into the "assessment" or "refine" categories (meaning that they were being evaluated/considered). Especially considering this update had taken longer to release than previous ones (about a year), I'd have hoped they'd address more than one function, out of so many more that were requested and apparently being considered.
That said, new sounds are important, and when it comes to features/functions, if I had to choose just ONE such improvement to implement on the CP73, yes, it would be the velocity scaling. Now to get my hands on one and see how it feels!
I never anticipate all things to be feasible, since there is always a lengthy planning and trial phase and not everything run through that will come out a success. Velocity as you've noted as important, is one of the pet complaints of a certain individual who frequents forums bashing the CP88 as if its the worst product the company has ever invented. Those around him sometimes form an echo chamber. It will be interesting to see how they view it too perhaps, considering you are on most of those piano forums yourself.
Personally I have the perspective of use before number. The time old quality and scale of effect before quantity. This also comes up, with respect to various sub sounds.
I assume you watched the release video and have a good understanding of what is available. So perhaps post back afterwards with a conclusion of what has been delivered from you pov value wise.

I actually haven't seen the video. But the update docs appear to show that the update provides new sounds and new velocity controls, that's the extent of it. Not that that alone isn't important and valuable, of course. And value wise, well, since it's free, I have to say the update is a great value. 😉
If you're curious, the other things I thought could be improved (mostly in terms of usability) are discussed in the thread at https://www.yamahasynth.com/forum/improvements-i-d-like-to-see-in-the-cp73-cp88
Interestingly the new sounds that were added to the CP (except the Hamburg and Felt piano) are all that were already present on the Yamaha YC. They will probably do the same when they update the YC.
