Velocity glitch?

I have encountered a strange problem. When I use the CP4 as a controller keyboard to trigger vst-instruments on my computer, sometimes a sudden burst in velocity appears. It seems, that only the note E3 is concerned. If I hit it repeatedly, every now and then there is a note with velocity 127 - no matter how gently I press the key.
It is definitely not a hardware issue, for this never happens when I play the internal sounds of the CP4.
But it happens no matter which port I use (tried over USB and MIDI) or which host programme I choose (tried Cubase and Gig Performer).
It seems to me, that this is a software problem. The note number of E3 happens to be 64, which is exactly 2 to the power of 6 - a round number for a computer. Don't know, if this has anything to do with it. πŸ˜‰

Has anyone an idea, what is happening here?

Thanks in advance,
Markus

If it never happens with the CP4 STAGE’s own tone generator then you have a mystery on your hands that would involve the device you are trying to trigger.

Record the MIDI OUTPUT of the CP4 STAGE to Cubase, and see if you can find the actual event that spikes. This will tell you if it is the transmitting device or the receiving device.

If you see E3 with a Velocity Value of 127 you know your CP4 STAGE has a broken note. And the fact it never happened when playing the CP4 STAGE alone was just luck.
If you hear the spike but do not see an event with a 127 value, you know it is not your CP4 STAGE and we can focus our search on the receiving end.

There are, of course, other possibilities β€” which must be considered: any unusual or incorrect MIDI routing
Are you using the Master Keyboard functions of the CP4 STAGE to communicate with your DAW?

Let us know.

First of all, thank you for the quick response on a sunday! πŸ˜€

Yes, I saw the note on a MIDI-Monitor-Plugin straight after the MIDI-In.

But it seems, the mystery is already solved. You were absolutely right, it was just a coincidence. After your suggestion, I played a One Note Samba on the CP4 alone, and the problem occurred as well. :-/
This is really a pity. For the last two years the CP4 has been and was always recommended by me to others as a very reliable device.
Is there any chance to repair this one key or does the whole keybed have to be replaced? What price can I expect for a repair?

Kind regards,
Markus

Usually the one key can be replaced... You should contact an authorized service center for estimates on pricing.

It is most likely the rubber contact strips underneath the keys. I replaced mine myself and that fixed the problem.
